Accession Day - Why June 9

[edit]

According to the page about King Abdullah, his accession took place in February 1999. I am intrigued by the reason people celebrate his accession on June 9 - if the day is celebrated according to the Islamic Lunar Calendar, the date should be specified in that calendar.
