Diana's best mate

Whenever I hear this woman's name pop up in the media it's in connection with Diana, Princess of Wales. While I'm sure she's done useful charity work, she appears to have run a significant sideline in being a professional 'friend and confidant' of the big D, but for some reason none of this is mentioned in the article. She does seem to have been a close friend.
