[edit]

I typed the MP5K page as it is now, but I can't fix a silly mistake: the page "MP5K" redirects to the HK MP5 page, instead of this one. Could someone fix this?

new article

[edit]

i made a new article for the mp5k pdw (Uber555 03:38, 31 January 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Are you sure that was the right thing to do, rather than just expand out and add the info in the PDW section of the main MP5K page? I don't know that it's distinct enough to warrant a whole new page. I think previously you'd get MP5K as a redirect from MP5K PDW. Also, the "proper name" for the article would be Hckler & Koch MP5K PDW not just MP5K PDW.
I recommend you pull the content back into the main MP5K article and redirect your article to the main one, but we can talk about it if you feel strongly for having a separate page. Georgewilliamherbert 05:13, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok the article can be added here sorry for late reply (Uber555 03:26, 7 February 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Stargate

[edit]

I do believe that this gun was just used in a stargate episode. Off the Grid...

United States Secret Service.

[edit]

I don't have a valid source that says it's used, but i've seen photos showing members of the protection detail carring these weapons, typically fitted with a sling. I'll add it in "Usage" on the page, but if you disagree then delete it and i'll look for a source. Batman2005 05:49, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gun picture

[edit]

Who submitted the 3DS Max render of an MP5K? --HashiriyaGDB 20:37, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean the picture inside the infobox, I submitted it. It's not a render though - it's an H&K photo. - Tronno ( t | c ) 22:09, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Modifications

[edit]
The MP5K PDW is believed to have been developed for use by helicopter crews of the U.S. Army's 160th SOAR division. [citation needed] However, the MP5K's poor performance in Somalia during Operation Gothic Serpent led to a search for 5.56 mm NATO replacements. [citation needed]

I suppressed this excerpt :

  1. the MP5K was develloped in 1976, while the Task Force 160 (forrunner of the 160th SOAR) was created i, 1980 only ; so it can't have been develloped at their request
  2. The article clearly indicates that this weapon supposedly had a poor performance in Somalia, i would like to some proof of that as in a personnel source or document. As far as I know, Mike Durant never reported such, and he was the only guy known to have used his MP-5K. Finally, while Mark Bowden's Black Hawk Down writes that Durant used a MP5K, photographs of 160th crews, an official SF memorial of the Super Six Four crash and the movie (not reliable source, I know) all shows Night Stalkers crews and Durant respectively with an MP5A3. Appearances

[edit]

Why did someone erase the 'Appearances' section where I stated that it appeared in Clear & Present Danger? vipetheviper 23:12, 12 May 2007 (CST)

Because it violated WP:MILHIST#POP, it's just not notable enough. — DanMP5 Semper Fi, Carry on 04:17, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The thing about appearances is that it becomes very trivial. The MP5K has appeared in many places, video games and movies alike (hell, the reason I even re-stumbled across this article is because I watched "Batman Begins" tonight, and the docks scene features a baddy cracking one of these babies off). Point being, I and many others read Wikipedia articles to learn meat and potatoes information about stuff. Trivia is cute, but not really necessary.KungfuJoe1110 08:50, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposition

[edit]

The MP5K deserves its own article. In fact, if you look at most respectable gun sources, they treat it seperately from the MP5. Even HKPro has a seperate article for the MP5K, and it is run mainly by current and former Heckler and Koch employees, so they should know. Bottom line is, many people would probably expect it to have its own article.SAWGunner89 14:36, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it needs it's own article too, the MP5 article would be pretty long if it was merged, and, most importantly, the MP5K has it's own variant! that alone should be enough to warrant the MP5K it's own article. — DanMP5 16:01, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If the AR-15, M16, CAR-15, M4, etc all get separate articles, I don't see why these need to be merged. Just because they're related doesn't mean they're the same gun. Oppose merge. — Red XIV (talk) 06:53, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also agree. This gun is simply too different from it's predecessor to be required to merge. It isn't leaves on a twig we're talking here, it's branches on the tree. Do I think that the A3, A4, A5, etc. deserve their own pages? No, not unless one could put up a pretty convincing argument. But this gun? Oppose merge. KungfuJoe1110 08:52, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
