Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas or the Council of the Laity of the Philippines, is the national coordinating body of all the Archdiocesan and Diocesan Councils of the Laity, along with the National Lay Organizations of the Philippines. It is also serves as the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity.[1]
History
Vision
Laiko envisions themselves as being the lead organization for the development and formation of lay leaders.[2]
Where every Christian is an evangelizer. Where the family is the foundation and agent of conversion, formation and renewal. Where all people are strengthened by a unifying compassion. And, where, as one body, build a life integrated with faith.
Mission
The mission of Laiko is to involve themselves in continuing formation and witnessing.
And to actively participate in building ecclesial communities, and to help in implementing the Acts and Decrees of the Second Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCP II)
Purpose
- 1. To coordinate efforts among the Laity
- 2. Maintain contact and continue dialogue among different lay groups
- 3. Foster observance of Church laws
- 4. Give guidance in the formation of the laity
- 5. Formulate statements on national issues
- 6. Utilize mass media
- 7. Participate in ecumenical activities

All Catholic lay faithful are members of the Laity.
