The 2022–23 Chicago Blackhawks season was the 97th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on September 25, 1926.[2] The Blackhawks were led by first-year head coach Luke Richardson.[3]
On March 18, 2023, the Blackhawks were eliminated from playoff contention after a loss to the Arizona Coyotes.[4]
One bright spot of the season was the Blackhawks upsetting the Pittsburgh Penguins on April 11, 2023, who were fighting for their playoff hopes and extending their playoff streak to 17. The win clinched a playoff spot for the Florida Panthers and paved the way for their underdog Stanley Cup run.[5][6] The win, combined with the New York Islanders victory over the Montreal Canadiens the next day, also ended the 16-year playoff streak for the Penguins[7][8][9] and led to them hiring Kyle Dubas to replace both Ron Hextall and Brian Burke, who were fired from their roles, as GM and president respectively.[10][11][12][13][14]
