Summaries

[edit]

The summaries for Episode 4 & 5 are exactly the same. Some copying mistake I assume? 95.88.36.177 (talk) 21:00, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Episode 418, Ruddy Cheeks

[edit]

I've had to revert changes twice; I have added a source; the episode has aired tonight. I have watched it on television, and it is available on download sites. It is incorrect to state that the original air date is "March 9th, 2012". Please make sure to verify the information before introducing factual errors. :) Salvidrim! 05:15, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CTV: "Cheap Burgundy", 8 March 10pm ET; "Ruddy Cheeks", 8 March 9pm ET
CBS: "Cheap Burgundy", 8 March 10pm ET; "Ruddy Cheeks", 9 March 9pm ET
So not only has the 18th episode of season 4 already been shown but it was shown BEFORE the 17th episode to maximise simulcast and thereby simsub too.
As for being available on download sites, one can't trust an LOL or DIMENSION release as they have the better part of a decade history of taking pre-air versions sourced from whoknowswhere and overlaying graphics taken from Wikipedia of programme ratings and broadcasters resulting in some poorass imitations of being from a broadcast in Canada. If you are a viewer of CTV then you know they have the animated appearance of the logo with the Olympic rings at this time and they love to put in a snipe or two for shows on the next night or later that night. Downloads which contain those are from real CTV broadcasts. The 2HD releases have those for both eps.

And in case you are thinking to cite Tribune's Zap2it tv listings know that they rarely treat non-US as valid for determining when a show was originally broadcast, even if said show is a non-US show. Their current data for s4 of Flashpoint is a mix of CA and US dates and previous seasons now does list the CA date (though they are not always the date of global first broadcast). For the short-lived Combat Hospital Zap2it abides by the ABC schedule and entirely dismisses the existence of the episode which ABC decided to skip but which was broadcast on Global. Yet with The Listener's last 3 eps of s2 being shown in the UK months before CA Zap2it has declared the original dates to be the later CA ones. 'Tis a bit American-centric that site is; 'tis a bit whoknowswhattheyarethinking. Not always such an accurate source is the point. For anyone who wants a screeenshot of the CTV schedule from last night from Zap2it thementalists04e18e17.png You can note how the US programme rating is listed for the Toronto station of CTV and also see that Winnipeg likewise had ep 18 before ep 17 and that part of the schedule for Halifax isn't in the picture but they had ep 17 at 7pm ET/8pm AT. delirious & lost~hugs~ 10:51, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, I am Canadian, and watched both on CTV indeed. I was a bit peeved they showed 418 before 417, but I just recorded it and watched it after. I the info cited directly from the CTV website, as they had made some announcement about it. CBS Vermont (which we get here) simulcasted Ep.417 from CTV (or the other way around, perhaps), at 10PM EST.
Oddly, Ep.417 (The Mentalist 4x17 (HDTV-x264-LOL) [VTV]) was released on the web at 8:12PM; maybe was broadcast somewhere else first, or I dunno, or whatever. It appears with a CTV watermark in B&W with no animation in the location normally used when it is the "second" watermark for simulcasted shows; there is no other watermark (nor has any been removed). LOL & DIMENSION released s4e17 to align with pretending it came from CJCH in Halifax and s4e18 two hours later pretending it came from CFTO/CJCH/CKCK/CKY/whicheverETorATstationyouwanttopick. They do a similar thing aligning their release of The River to match the broadcast in Poland on AXN (not sure if you knew The River actually has its premiere for each episode in Poland and 6 hours later in NYC & Toronto on ABC & CTV).As for the release times of the episodes, you are speaking of the torrent uploaded-time.

That is when the episodes became available on the "topsites", which if you do the time-zone conversion you will see is actually BEFORE the said episodes were completed their respective broadcasts on CTV. Sometimes they don't do it but LOL's s4e17, which i downloaded just to be sure, is just what they normally do; that is one of their faked-from-a-Canadian-broadcast mockups. With The River they usually leave it clean because they don't have the broadcaster logo for its Polish broadcaster and only an absolute idiot would think CTV has a station in eastern Europe. The LOLfake.png and 2HDreal.png Note the really HUGE difference is the programme rating. If the ep merits a 14+ rating at 10pm in Toronto there is no way it got a simple PG rating when it was on at 8pm in Halifax. One is faked-from-broadcast and as such is not reliable whilst the other is from a real broadcast and therefore is reliable for saying whether an episode really was broadcast or not.
And if you ever cite the CTV website you need to make an archive at the same time because they overwrite things there all the time. delirious & lost~hugs~ 12:09, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, thanks for all the explanation. And looking back on it, I really should've made an archive. :) Salvidrim! 12:15, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The short of it is that saying you have a download of an episode that came from LOL doesn't necessarily mean the show was actually broadcast. It has happened where LOL has released shows from fictional CA broadcasts. One such is most of s8 of Charmed, which was a 5-day delay in CA but LOL put it out to align with US broadcast but with the CA PG programme rating. Sometimes LOL ends up with a different edit from what gets broadcast. All the detail is to preëmptively answer most any question about the validity of the CA early broadcast of s4e18. It happened with House MD the other week and it happened with Cougar Town last year. The difference is that this time it was a scheduled, intentional early broadcast of a US show instead of a short-notice preëmption on the respective US network. I went looking for that notice on CTV's page for the show and i just could not find it so they likely removed it immediately upon it being out-dated. But they didn't update the ep guide :( US fans should enjoy it tonight. Samaire is once again brilliant as Cho's lover. delirious & lost~hugs~ 19:45, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Markup is off

[edit]

The coding for the webpage no longer displays a table, so something's gone wrong between the previous page and the update, I'm not sure how the Wiki markup works though so here's a note instead of a fix. Chrissd21 (talk) 02:37, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
