Guess what? I think I've solved my first question. I wanted to make a list of categories for my article on Valle de Chalco, but the coding result wasn't showing up in Preview, so I just assumed it wasn't working. HOWEVER, I'm now seeing that it does take effect when I Save. Escuincla (talk) 16:35, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Categories aren't classed as article text and they don't show up on Preview - the only way to check them is to Save the page. If they don't work, you have to re-edit. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 16:41, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi: would you be willing to adopt me? I should tell you something about who I am... I'm a computer science prof who's been a lurker and occasional editor on Wikipedia for a while, but I'm going to be on sabbatical for this next year studying cooperative online works, especially Wikipedia. I suspect my questions (when I've got them) might be as much about the community as they would be technical... I'd eventually really like to learn about how I could maybe help out the Adopt-A-User program to get even more people fired up about Wikipedia. But I thought it made sense to "go through the process," and I'm trying to get involved in being a regular editor. SeparateWays (talk) 18:48, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for being willing to take me on -- yes, please sign me up. Thanks! I'll even follow up with a question: was this the right place to respond? I thought about responding on my user talk page and leaving a Talkback note here, but I thought that might have been overkill. SeparateWays (talk) 21:36, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Got it (regarding talkbacks). Thanks again! I'll post in my adoptee section questions as they arise. SeparateWays (talk) 18:41, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
