Amy Maree Eden is an Australian politician who has served as mayor of Cairns in Queensland since 2024. She is the second woman to hold the role, after Val Schier.
Political career
Eden was elected to Division 5 on Cairns Regional Council in 2020, narrowly defeating incumbent independent councillor Richie Bates (who had defected from Cairns Unity in 2017).[2][3]
In 2023, she herself defected from Unity to form Team Eden ahead of the 2024 local government elections.[4]
Eden was elected with 56.64% of the vote after preference distribution, defeating incumbent Terry James.[5][6]
