WikiCup 2023 September newsletter
The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were
- Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
- Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
- Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.
Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Wikipedia and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

Language check-up
Hi ;-)
According to my homepage, you are my experienced Wikipedian helper ;-) Nice to meet you.
I have translated an article from Polish Wikipedia to English one (was on the list of ones that should get translated). The link is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Kaworu1992/sandbox. Could you please check my grammar and other English stuff and tell me when it is okay to post it on main Wikipedia? ;-)
Also, can I add to the article copyrighted photo of the lady?
Best wishes! -- Kaworu1992 (talk) 21:49, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- Welcome to the English side!
- Since the lady is still alive, I would say that adding a copyrighted photo shouldn’t be done. This is usually acceptable when the subject of the article is dead so no more new pictures can be taken.
- For the grammar - I think it’s good enough. I made a couple minor corrections. Also, I believe you should put the reference tags after the periods/commas to follow the general style. Juxlos (talk) 03:41, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Gender balance as contribution to socio-economic development”
Gender discrimination has been a persistent problem faced by women all over the world, which has led to the need to empower women for uplifting their status as recognized by Millennium Development Goals in 2010.This study is concerned with the variable related to the research. It focuses on presenting the background of the study, the statement of the problem, objectives of the study, scope of the study, research questions and research hypothesis. In a male dominated society, women have always been undervalued and discriminated in all domains of life be it their family and social life or their economic and political life. Moreover, the traditional duties of managing households create hindrances in their social and economic empowerment. Over the years various efforts have been made by many Government and Non-Government organizations to promote women empowerment in general and especially in the field of Socio-economic development. Question from Vantasia (18:00, 26 March 2024)
Hello. I'm very new to wikipedia and I'm willing to write an article on my brother. He appeared multiple times on the news (locally and nation wide at some point) in 2021 and 2022 due to some... Events.
I want to make an article so the truth can be spread instead of gossips from lying online medias who portrait him as simply a disgusting individual without citing the reasons for what happened.
The articles are in french, but he's the one talked about there;

Question from Mongrelmusings (00:55, 2 April 2024)
Hello Juxlos! Apparently you're my assigned mentor, so I hope it's okay to ask you for help. Earlier on today, I realised that the interlanguage links for sebastes norvegicus (English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastes_norvegicus) were incomplete. Speaking German, I knew there was a German Wikipedia page about the same fish (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotbarsch) but it wasn't appearing in the interlanguage link.
Accordingly, I decided to add an interlanguage link (my first time! still quite a newbie), and so I was sent to the corresponding Wikidata page (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14718979).
However, I was then unable to add the German page to the Wikidata's Wikipedia interlanguage links. Reason? Because apparently someone had erroneously created a second / separate Wikidata list for the exact same topic (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1753710) and had added the German page to this list. And it seems like you can only add each Wikipedia page to one single Wikidata list / interlanguage list. So I couldn't add the German one to this page.
Having reviewed both the Wikidata pages, I concluded to merge them so that e.g. German Wikipedia pages would be able to find the corresponding English page easier (and vice versa). I decided to move everything to "Q14718979" because it was already linked to the English page and also because "Q1753710" seemed to contain a few obvious basic errors (e.g. the interlanguage link list included a link to the Cebuano page for "Sebastes viviparus" – this is a separate fish from sebastes norvegicus and therefore didn't belong in that list at all – I've since removed it from that list, and assigned it to the correct Wikidata list Q1583538).
I have now completed that transfer – there are now 29 interlanguage links for sebastes norvegicus united under one roof at Q14718979 (i.e https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14718979)!
My question to you is: what do I now do with Wikidata page Q1753710? --Mongrelmusings (talk) 00:55, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- My first instinct was to create a redirect link from Q1753710 to Q14718979, but I could only find one help page about it, and it didn't really answer how I do that (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Help:Redirects).
- I was also wondering if I should/can add a comment/explanation anywhere on Q1753710 to explain what I've just done? I wouldn't want anyone to think I've been vandalising. This is my first time editing a Wikidata page – I was surprised that there's no edit summary prompt or talk page (or maybe I just overlooked it?).
- Thanks in advance for your help! M Mongrelmusings (talk) 00:59, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- I would personally not think too much about it - Wikidata is mostly there for large scale data interface anyway.
- Also, I'm not very familiar personally with Wikidata conventions 😅 Juxlos (talk) 01:21, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Ha, okay! Thank you. I shall just leave it as it is then. Best, M Mongrelmusings (talk) 08:31, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
DYK for Ahmad Nasuhi
On 3 April 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ahmad Nasuhi, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ahmad Nasuhi ordered a subordinate to attack the Indonesian Communist Party's offices with grenades as "psychological warfare against the central government"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ahmad Nasuhi. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Ahmad Nasuhi), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

How to flag biased pages with admins?
Hello Juxlos,
It's me again! Thanks again for your help last time.
I have another question for you, as my mentor: there's a German Wikipedia page about a suggested policy from the German far-right AFD. The page itself isn't a problem, but its lack of neutrality is. Who do I go to to flag this? And how do I flag it? Mongrelmusings (talk) 16:16, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
