Request: Could someone create redirect pages for Robert Huebner and Robert Hubner (these are the two main Anglianised forms of his surname that I've seen) and redirect them to Robert Hübner. I don't know how to do it myself, and I don't want to create unwanted empty pages. Thanks, Isofarro.

Thanks for starting the article! I've made those redirects - it's just a case of putting "#redirect what you want to redirect to" in the page (see Wikipedia:Redirects for the details). --Camembert

Birthdate

[edit]

Changed it to November 6 based on http://ratings.fide.com/toparc.phtml?cod=1 and http://www.echesspedia.com/?page_id=8916. Petersburg (talk) 13:11, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. That looks like it was just a typo in the info box. The date was correct in the lead and sourced. Quale (talk) 10:40, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Or it could be vandalism. Some vandals like to make a subtle change like that. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 17:17, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hübner is still playing FIDE-rated chess

[edit]

...at least through early this year according to his FIDE rating progress chart. So the infobox saying that he is "inactive (not rated)" is incorrect. --71.174.173.175 (talk) 10:56, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, he is still active and the infobox should be changed. Can somebody please help with this? --Termgrauzis (talk) 11:53, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hübner's subject of study

[edit]

Hübner is not an expert of Egyptian hieroglyphics but on classics, especially ancient Greek. He is co-editor of two volumes of Papyrologica Coloniensia, Vol. VII.1 (1976) and Vol. VII.3 (1980). From the tables of contents linked there one can see that both volumes deal with Greek papyri primarily. As far as I know Hübner wrote his doctoral thesis on juridical papyri, but I am not sure about that. He edited the juridical papyri in the volumes anyway. Moreover he stopped his academic career around 1980 and became a fulltime chess professional (rare Hübner interview in German ) --Archäopath (talk) 18:09, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hübner as a chess professional

[edit]

The article currently says, "He remained active on the international circuit into the 2000s but has never been a full-time chess professional due to his academic career." I don't think it's true that he was never a professional and there's no source provided. This Interview (in German) suggests that he was a professioal for at least ten years from 1978.
