Synopsis

Template:Spoilers

Five brave, skilled, and adventurous young people are chosen to search for several magical jewels that were long ago taken from the Corona Aurora ("Crown of the Gods"), so as to prevent them from coming into the possession of the demons Moltor and Flurious. These demons are brothers, banished long ago by the Corona's guardian for having attempted to steal it. When the millionaire explorer Andrew Hartford discovered Corona Aurora, the demons escaped their exile and rallied their allies. In response, Andrew Hartford selected the talented youths and modified their DNA so as to grant them exceptional physical powers by which to combat the evil. Later on in the quest, a evil human ninja, Miratrix joined the race for the jewels, with her own allies.

Although Moltor and Flurious initially attempted to work together, they soon became rivals. The Corona Aurora fell into Moltor's hands; yet without its jewels, it could not grant the owner universal power. Now the Rangers have to beat multiple villainous groups (including ninjas and cyborgs) to save the jewels, and voyage across the world in search of their objective.

Rose Ortiz
The Pink Ranger; she is a Mensa level genius archaeologist who enjoys poetry and myth. Her power is invisibility.[11] She is portrayed by Rhoda Montemayor.
Tyzonne
The Mercury Ranger. Information concerning this character is unknown, as all that is known comes from Japanese magazine scans. [12].

Allies

  • Andrew Hartford: Mack's father; an adventurer and billionaire who created the Operation Overdrive Power Rangers to find the gems of the Corona Aurora. He originally planned to be the Red Ranger, but decided that his son was better suited for the job, despite his own fears of losing Mack. (Portrayed by Rod Lousich).[3]
  • Spencer: The Hartfords' butler. He has a close friendship with Mack, and gives all the rangers advice. He makes very funny jokes, and sometimes helps in battle. (Portrayed by David Weatherley).
  • Golden Knight: He is the original guardian of the Corona Aurora. When he felt the crown was in danger, he hid the five stones and the crown on the planet Earth. His spirit returns to demand that Andrew and his team of Rangers protect the crown. (Voiced by Nic Sampson).

Villains

In Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive, there are three competing factions of villains that the Rangers must combat, in order to prevent them from acquiring the Corona Aurora's five gems.

  • Flurious: This master villain thrives in a sub-zero climate, on a glacier. He was originally human, until his attempt to capture the Corona Aurora. He was then transformed to a monstrous form affliliated with ice. (Portrayed by Gerald Urquhart)
  • Norg: An abominable snowman who lives in the cave Flurious claimed as his base. Quite good-natured and resilient. (Portrayed by Kelson Henderson)
  • Moltor: Moltor, brother of Flurious, must live under conditions of extreme heat, and thus dwells in a volcano. He was originally human, until his attempt to steal the Corona Aurora. He was changed into a demon affliliated with fire. (Voiced by Mark Ferguson)
  • Kamdor: An armored ninja, working with Miratrix, who lived inside her necklace until being freed by a machine that was stolen by Will. He creates and enlarges his monsters. (Voiced by Adam Gardiner)
  • Mira/Miratrix: An evil part-human ninja who co-leads the third faction of villains. (Portrayed by Ria Vandervis)

Arsenal

  • Adventure Morpher: The Adventure Tracker is the Morpher for Operation Overdrive. It is a fully functional cell phone equipped with multiple additions: a black light that can decode hidden messages, the Turbo Wheel which allows the Rangers to execute commands, extra keypad buttons to be used for summoning their various Zords, and a zipline/grappling hook to reach faraway places. The morphing call is "Overdrive Accelerate!"
  • S.H.A.R.C.: Stands for Special Hydro Aero Recon Craft. The SHARC, which was built by Andrew Hartford, is a sleek-looking jet-like vehicle. It is capable of great speed in the air as well as on the water, and is the Rangers' primary mode of transportation. The SHARC is driven primarily by Ronny, the Yellow Ranger.
  • Control Drivers: Used by the Rangers to control their Relic Drivers, they collapse into a suitcase form, and then expand back when inserted into the control panels of the Zords. They all have a steering wheel and two gearsticks within their confines.
  • Drive Blaster: The personal sidearm for the rangers, the Drive Blaster features both a blast mode and a saber mode.
  • Each Ranger possesses his/her own weapon:
    • The Red Ranger wields the Drive Staff, a spear with a retractable blade. The weapon visually resembles a vehicle's leaf spring. Using this spear, the Red Ranger can do a high-speed slash attack called Redline Time, named after the RPM term.
    • The Black Ranger wields the Drive Hammer, a giant hammer that resembles a driveshaft and axle.
    • The Blue Ranger wields the Drive Gyro, a handheld fan that can create strong winds. This weapon is designed after a jet turbine.
    • The Yellow Ranger wields the Drive Claws, two handheld bulldozer implements that can be used to slash. They're visually designed after loader buckets.
    • The Pink Ranger wields the Drive Laser, a powerful water-based gun. Unlike the other Rangers' weapons, the Drive Geyser isn't made to look like any specific part of a vehicle's chassis. Instead, this weapon resembles a miniature version of the Submarine Driver zord.
  • Civilian Vehicles: The rangers use these vehicles in pre-battle before they are morphed. Dax (Blue Ranger), Ronny (Yellow Ranger), and Will (Black Ranger) pilot their own personal ATV's or mortorcycles, while Rose (Pink Ranger), Mack (Red Ranger), and any other allies traveling with them (such as Spencer or Andrew) travel in a Humvee.
  • HoverTek Cycle: The HoverTek Cycle, developed by Hartford Industries exclusively for the Black Ranger. It can transform into a helicopter-type vehicle, and is equipped with powerful lasers. Used for land and air combat. Strangely, a good deal of its surface is pink rather than black.
  • Cell Tracker and Drive Cannon: A protective vest and a two ended Blaster weapon. One end (based on Gyro Driver) encases the monster in cement, freezing them in place. The other (based on Drill Driver) fires a drill head into the monster to destroy it. The vest is to protect the user from the Drive Cannon's powerful recoil, and is powered by one of Fire Heart's dragon scales.

Artifacts

  • Corona Aurora: The Corona Aurora is a crown, resembling that worn in medieval Europe, but claimed to be of divine origin. It is also commonly called The Crown of the Gods. To prevent its capture by those of negative interest, a Sentinel Knight scattered the crown's jewels across Earth. Now Moltor has the crown, to which he desires to add the jewels. If all five jewels are put on the crown and evil wears it, all hope is lost.
  • Neptune's Cocoon: This was found sealed within an altar in an Atlantian temple deep in the ocean. The rangers opened the cocoon, believing it to contain one of the gems belonging to the Corona Aurora, finding instead one of the "Neptune Scrolls".
  • Scrolls of Neptune: The first of these three scrolls was inside the cocoon of Neptune. Rose solved the puzzle when they opened the scroll by making a picture of the sword of Neptune. The sword was actually made up of three scrolls. When the rangers got all three scrolls, they formed the sword of Neptune.
  • Sword of Neptune: When the three Neptune Scrolls, including the one mentioned above, were laid end to end, they formed a blade called the Sword of Neptune. It was initially missing its jewel. Upon its formation, it flew out of Rose's hands and pierced the island of Saint Lucia on a map, pointing the Rangers to the location of the pearl that fit it's hilt.
  • Eye of the Sea: Jewel discovered on the island of Saint Lucia. Believed to be the first jewel of the Corona Aurora, but was proven not to be.
  • Brownbeard's Lucky Pearl: When the Eye of the Sea didn't fit on the hilt of the Sword of Neptune, the rangers gave it to Brownbeard. In exchange, he gave him his lucky pearl, which fit the sword and meant this was possibly the first jewel to the Corona Aurora.
  • Dragon Scale: The scale of the dragon Fire Heart purchased by Andrew Hartford from Toby Slambrook (owner of the Rock Porium in Briarwood from Power Rangers: Mystic Force) to power up the Cell Tracker.
  • Hou-ou Bird: A golden statue of a Japanese Phoenix located in Istanbul. By directing it at the sun at the perfect angle, it came to life and lead Miratrix to the next clue for the four remaining jewels.

As with every Power Rangers series, each Ranger gets his or her own personal Zord that can form a larger Megazord. In Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive, these are collectively referred to as the DriveMax Zords, and are all based on real vehicles.

  • DriveMax Megazord or Mega Truck.
    • Its weapon is the Shovel Driver, can transform into the sword called Shovel Driver Sword Mode.
  • Dump Driver, a dump truck driven by Mack as the Red Ranger.
  • Speed Driver, a race car driven by Will as the Black Ranger.
  • Gyro Driver, a gyroplane driven by Dax as the Blue Ranger.
  • Dozer Driver, a bulldozer driven by Ronny as the Yellow Ranger.
  • Sub Driver, a submarine driven by Rose as the Pink Ranger.
  • Drill Driver, a giant drill vehicle that can replace Dozer Driver.
    • DriveMax Megazord Drill Formation. First Driven by Mack as the Red Ranger, then by Ronny as the Yellow Ranger.
  • Shovel Driver, a backhoe that can replace Sub Driver.
    • DriveMax Megazord Shovel Formation. Driven by Rose as the Pink Ranger.
  • Cement Driver, a cement mixer that can replace the Sub Driver
    • Drive Megazord Mixer Formation. Driven by Dax as the Blue Ranger.
  • Crane Driver, a crane that can replace the Sub Driver.
    • DriveMegazord Crane Formation. Driven by Will as the Black Ranger.
  • There is another Megazord named the Super DriveMax Megazord.

Based on the source footage in Boukenger, there will be a total of eighteen Zords to be used among six Rangers. Other Zords include a jet plane. These Zords are similar to the Auxiliary Dino Zords of Power Rangers: Dino Thunder and some of the Auxiliary Power Animals of Power Rangers: Wild Force in that they usually replace one of the arms of the core Megazord, except the jet. The jet can also combine with the Drill, Shovel, Cement, and Crane Drivers into another Megazord. The Mercury Ranger will have fire engine, police car, and ambulance Zords. The remaining five Zords make up a giant amphibious battleship/aircraft carrier Zord that turns into a separate Megazord. This Megazord's arms can also be interchangeable with the others.

Global quest

Unique among Power Ranger series, Operation Overdrive has the Rangers exploring, operating and fighting in many different countries around the world, rather than focusing on a single city. In search of the jewels, the Rangers have been to Atlantis, unnamed islands in the Atlantic and Pacific, Saint Lucia, and Istanbul. To specifically battle villainous attacks, they have visited Rotuma Island and Australia.

Before being recruited, Dax was working in Hollywood, Ronnie was competing in an Italian race, Will was carrying out a mission in Brazil, and Rose was studying in London.

Confirmed details

The following is information concerning characters from the source material, GoGo Sentai Boukenger, that is currently not known as to its existence in the Operation Overdrive localization, or material that has been confirmed by officials.

  • Boukenger has a fourth group comprised of demons with two of them becoming cyborgs. They will appear in Operation Overdrive with the names (according to the Japanese anniversary compilation) Bisogarō (ビソガロー, Bisogarō) and Migu (ミグ, Migu). It is not known if these names will be changed between now and their premiere, or what these names are in English. [14]
  • Boukenger has an ally who transforms to and from a golden sword, and has the ability to grow to the size of the Megazords. The Sentinel Knight resembles this ally. This ally will also become the Battlizer for the Red Ranger. [14]
  • A recent scan released from Japanese magazines gives insight to a 15th anniversary episode involving a story in which Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa's son seeks revenge against the rangers. According to the scan, the episode will air during the second half of the season. Nothing else is known at this time. [15]
