UPDATING CASINOS I am new to this page and have noticed that the casino listings are incomplete and not updated. I was wondering if anyone had ideas how to make the list better. We could do old casinos in one list and modern casinos in another (pre vs post Sands), or maybe even do it by section (Peninsula, Taipa, Cotai, Coloane). We should think about adding more details to the list as well. I will work on updating this list but would welcome any feedback. Also, lets try and use references where we make the changes. STYLE --see comments below from 2004. There was a request for a native speaker to clean up the grammar and style on this page. I guess i'll work on that along with casino update, and will pay careful attention to leave all the valuable content in place. Oldsnakeeyes 15:37, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should the list of casinos be arranged in alphabetical order? Josuechan (talk) 17:50, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Many tourists like to gambling there, especially Hong Kong people.

Please remind that do NOT post any pictures without get any permission, so it is better for us to post those prictures that we took by ourselves.

Hello. It looks like the paragraph

However the gambling business is also the source of instability in the Macau economy. As the nature of gambling industry is not susceptible to technological advancement or productivity growth. Yet for the best possible fortune, the gambling business is still dependent on the prosperity of the Asian economies, especially for that of the Hong Kong. As the result, the economy of Macau will always be dependent on that of the Hong Kong.

Hello. I noticed another paragraph --

Macau has nine casinos and the biggest one is the Casino Lisboa. All operated under Government franchise and rules are standard in all gaming halls. They open 24-hours a day and there is no entry fee. Visitors from foreign countries must be over 18 years old (local residents must be over 21) if they want to visit the casinos. Visitors are required to dress properly. Male guests are not permitted to wear shorts, sandels or slippers. Guests are not allowed to bring along with any weapons, cameras and pocketknives, they will be removed before entering. Players are also not obliged to tip any employees of the casinos.

which appears to be copied, with slight modification, from [2]. Text can't be copied without the explicit permission of the author (unless the text is in the public domain). The presence of copied text in this article is really a serious problem. Wile E. Heresiarch 21:03, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

  • Telephone Services
There are over 600 telephone service terminals and a total of over 38,000 telebet accounts. The winning dividend of account holders may at their instructions be automatically transferred to their bank accounts. For enquiries and opening of telephone service accounts, patrons are welcome to call at 8631338 (Macau).

Surely this is an advertisement for said telephone service? I removed it.Myhomeuphere 03:41, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Style

[edit]

This thing has much valuable content but is really bad style (probably written by a not native speaker). I am also a not native speaker, maybe a native speaker would be so nice and clean it up?? Also some rambling has to be removed. -- 84.57.69.121 04:39, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC)

  • I did some cleanup and moving of headings around. The heading Gambling and society looks like something that belongs in a more general article since most of it is not Macau specific. I almost deleted it, but was not sure. In any case, it still needs more work. The problem with someone from outside of the area doing a rewrite is that we don't know much about how things work in Macau. So something in the article could read badly, but still be correct. An example of this might be the use of size in the casinos table. Size in the US means square feet and not the number of tables or machines (which we tend to not track because the numbers change almost every day). Vegaswikian 22:45, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

Hi. The picture at Casinos_in_Macau#Horse_racing about the location of the racecoureses is missing Cotai, a newly reclaimed land between Taipa and Coloane islands. Cound somebody fix it? Thanks. --Notnd (talk) 15:30, 10 December 2009 (UTC) Agreed. Cotai is not there. The third bridge is not there either. List of Casinos

[edit]

This section is a total mess, and needs to be completely re-done. Really the entire article needs a re-write but its easy to start with the factual stuff first, also I don't mind working on this part.

I think the most sensible and helpful way to order the list is by date opened. This way, the list will be easy to update, and it will have the most relevant information highest (as most people will want to visit the newer, especially post-2004 casinos). The opening hour column can definitely go and can be replaced by the date opened column. It's probably most sensible to keep, but possibly rename the other two categories into 'number of tables/slots' and 'number of hotel rooms'. So it would be Name-Date Opened-Tables/Slots-Hotel Rooms.

If anybody would like to comment or make suggestions before I go ahead and rework the list, please comment below. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caspar esq. (talkcontribs) 16:56, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Macau gaming law

There would seem to be a lot of overlap between these articles, and neither is large enough that a combined article would be too big. Any objections to a merge? BDD (talk) 18:56, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Units

[edit]

This page should be converted to SI units, no one in Macau uses imperial. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.175.21.132 (talk) 10:30, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
