  • Delete, dicdef -- Zwilson 19:42, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Not a vote: Tom is best known as a name, surely, and as such the article may be expanded (as seems to be the trend with Eric and John) to include famous/important/articled people with that name. violet/riga (t) 19:58, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • Ack! That sounds like the beginning of a bad trend I think we do *not* want to encourage. Delete --Improv 20:08, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Certainly not a delete. Also a disambig for tom-tom.--Samuel J. Howard 20:27, Sep 22, 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep and disambiguate. Agree that it's not a deletion candidate. -- Graham ☺ | Talk 22:20, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete: I think it is a candidate. Tom-toms are tom-toms and won't be searched by "tom." All the Thomases of the world known only by the name Tom? How many is that? So that leaves us with the dictdef tom turkey. Geogre 00:20, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • Geogre, check out the article tom-tom and you will see that a tom-tom is frequently refered to as a "tom".--Samuel J. Howard 02:48, Sep 23, 2004 (UTC)

Has anyone got any references for Tom being used as a word for lunatic?

What about the Tom of Myspace? Tom/"Myspace Tom" as he's commonly referred as, is a common reference amongst young pop culture.

Should Logan Tom (b. 1981) - Olympic indoor volleyball player be mentioned here ? 84.129.185.74 21:10, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

12/2/08 cleanup

I cleaned up the page in accordance with the guidelines MOS:DP and WP:Disambiguation. I removed several entries for phrases that contain the word "tom" as part of a larger phrase, such as "TomTom," that nobody would reasonably search for as just "Tom." I removed entries for articles that didn't include any indication that the topic is referred to as "Tom." I removed entries for things that are called "Thomas" instead of "Tom." I also removed the "Famous Toms" list entirely, because there's no criteria for which Toms are "famous" enough to be listed there, and I think there are literally hundreds of people on Wikipedia named Tom who were not currently listed and I'm not going to spend hours of my life compiling a fairly worthless list of people named Tom. If any of those people are actually CALLED just Tom on a regular basis, the way Oprah is called just Oprah, they could be added back. Propaniac (talk) 21:51, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not very familiar with disambiguation page guidelines but I think this page needs to be split into several separate dab pages like those with {{hndis}} or {{SIA}} templates. I've tagged it with a cleanup tag for now. -- OlEnglish (Talk) 22:22, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
