The elephant in the room (no pun intended)

Okay, Trump is officially a criminal. With the convention only six weeks away, We’re going to have to figure out how we’re going to deal with this. The preliminary schedule is already out, and the speakers list is going to be out soon. Should the article be modeled after the 2008 or 2012 ones? Or should it be something unrelated? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.30.59.131 (talk) 15:17, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Damn bro dont have to be out for blood in the title :)))) DeadlyRampage26 (talk) 06:58, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Vance as VP.

It's been leaked already that J.D. Vance is Trump's VP,(Vice President) should that be included? From Donald Trump Jr. to Alex Jones. 68.189.2.14 (talk) 00:53, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Leaks are not reliable sources. --ZimZalaBim talk 01:55, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting of the section listing speakers: how should we do it this year?

Suggestion on list of speakers

Since this convention marks a return to in-person conventions, I think this article should NOT loyally repeat the manner in which we listed the speakers for the 2020 convention (in a table also containing photos of each speaker, and listing all speakers for the entire program of each day).

The 2020 format made sense for those particular conventions due to the virtual format and the abbreviated length of each night’s program to only two hours (as opposed to a typical convention’s longer sessions). Also, it made extra sense since a table was the best way to indicate where each speech was delivered from (2020 virtual conventions formats —particularly the highly decentralized Democratic Party “Convention Across America” format) featured speakers in all sorts of locations rather than a single convention hall as is normal.

Here are my suggestions of what we can do this year instead:

  • OPTION A: Do something similar to the 2020 tables for speakers during the primetime (8–10) speaking slots. These are the speakers who will appear on most networks’ comprehensive coverage. For any notable speakers in non-prime-time slots, we would have a SELECT(non comprehensive) list for each day of pre-prime-time speakers
  • OPTION A2: same as previous option within this article, but we also create a spun-off article where we comprehensively list all the speakers we can verify. I believe such a list would be perhaps in-tenable due to difficulty finding sources explicitly verifying more minor early-day speakers. If we created a spun-off article, I’d suggest locating the section summarizing the content of most notable speeches within that article instead of locating it in the main convention article (as was done for previous conventions).
  • OPTION B: We return to the format of pre-2024 conventions and only include a list of select notable speakers for each day.
  • OPTION B2: Same as above within this article, but similarly to option A2 we create a far more comprehensive spin-off article on the speeches/speakers at the convention

I prefer one of the “A” options

Thoughts? Preferences? Any modifications or completely alternate proposals? SecretName101 (talk) 16:24, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think doing it similar to 2020 would be sufficient. In my view, there doesn't really need to be another article for speakers as proposed in A2. Atlboy64 (talk) 18:12, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Atlboy64 the issue is in-person conventions have HOURS of non-prime time speakers. many hardly-noteworthy and who will be given hardly more than a minute to speak. The 2020 style is very wrong for this. We cannot list every last of those speakers with photos: it’s entirely unworkable SecretName101 (talk) 04:58, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Increase in security

In light of today's shooting where former President and presumptive nominee Donald Trump was wounded, has anyone heard anything about further increases in security for the upcoming Convention? WAVY 10 Fan (talk) 01:12, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

J.D. Vance is officially the pick.

It's been leaked that Trump told J.D. Vance that he will be the VP nominee, according to sources familiar with the matter. [1] 68.189.2.14 (talk) 21:15, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's not official if it's a tweet. It needs a better source. David O. Johnson (talk) 21:37, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently that individual is a local from the area.
