Kyung-In Broadcasting (경인방송) is a South Korean radio station (formerly also a television station) covering the metropolitan area of Incheon, adjacent to Seoul.

History

iTV started television broadcasting at noon on 11 October 1997 as iTV Incheon Broadcasting (iTV 인천방송). It was the largest of the private broadcasters other than SBS at the time. Before the first broadcast, the building at Hagik-dong was formally inaugurated.[1] The launch of iTV was during the second tranche of private local broadcasters, which included the expansion of the SBS network.[2]

Although iTV was an independent television station, it was the first channel to air a video journalist program (Real TV) which aired at the 8:30pm slot. The program employed twenty producers.[3]

On 1 November 2000, iTV was renamed Kyung-In Broadcasting and moved from UHF channel 21 to VHF channel 4.[4]

iTV's television station suffered from poor management, prompting the government not to renew the license.[5] forcing on 21 December 2004 to shut down on 31 December, the date of expiry of the license.[6] It became the first media outlet in Korea to shut down in 24 years, when several outlets, the most important being the Tongyang Broadcasting Corporation, shut down due to a media rationing plan under Chun Doo-hwan.[7]

Radio broadcasts restarted in March 2005, the following year, it signed a co-operation agreement with Qingdao Television.[8]

On November 19, 2013, iFM and OBS Gyeongin TV signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen pratical co-operation between the two stations.[9] A new memorandum of understanding was signed between the two on January 30, 2018 in order to use the Korean name Kyung-in Broadcasting.[10]

Following the closure of Gyeonggi Broadcasting, iFM applied for a license to operate in KFM's former coverage area in November 2021.[11]
