Hafid Abdelmoula (Template:Lang-ar; born 1975) is a Moroccan-American filmmaker, author, screenwriter, actor, singer, and producer. He is best known for his work on Broken Gaiete, Captain Fantastic, The Wall in the Garden, and Arto.
Biography
Hafid Abdelmoula was born in Morocco in 1975. He completed his Master’s degree in Film from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Abdelmoula’s multicultural background has influenced his diverse body of work in the arts.
He began his career at the age of 20 as a singer at the Moroccan Regional Orchestra Conservatory. In 1996, he won a television competition on the Moroccan 2M TV channel, marking his early success as a singer.
Abdelmoula transitioned into filmmaking and acting, writing and directing several short films, including The Wall in the Garden, Human, a Depressed Machine, Baby, Religified, and Restricted. In 2016, he made his feature film debut with a small role as a funeral driver in Captain Fantastic and contributed to the film as a producer, sound editor, and digital effects artist.
In addition to his work in film, Abdelmoula is also an author. He wrote Broken Gaiete II, a novel that explores complex themes and narratives.
In 2020, Abdelmoula directed The Man on The Hill and Broken Gaiete, the latter of which won Best Feature at the 2021 Santa Fe Film Festival. In January 2023, he was awarded the Rising Star in Film and Television of New Mexico by the New Mexico Film + TV Hall of Fame.
He is multilingual, speaking Arabic, Berber, French, English, Spanish, and German, and currently resides in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
