Anne-Gabrielle Caron (January 29, 2002 - July 29, 2010) was a Catholic French girl who died from Ewing's sarcoma at the age of eight.[1] She is renowned for her faith and holiness.

Biography

Anne-Gabrielle Caron was born in 2002 in Toulon. She is the eldest daughter of a naval officer, Alexandre Caron, and a literature teacher, Marie-Dauphine Caron. She is one of five children with François-Xavier, Blanche, Alix and Louis-Marie. From the age of two and a half, her attention to others and her piety were noticed. When she was four years old, she expressed her impatience to die to see God. For a year, between 2006 and 2007, she went to Guyana with her family.

The following year, from the summer of 2008, her right leg caused pain. She had Ewing's sarcoma, a rare and virulent bone cancer.

Hospitalized in Marseille at the Timone hospital, she underwent heavy chemotherapy treatments. During a period of remission she made her First Communion and received Confirmation.

She prayed a lot to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Very demanding of herself as of those close to her, she does not allow lack of love or backbiting.

Influences

Caron's role model was Anne de Guigné, a French girl who died at the age of ten. She is recognized by the Roman Catholic Church as a Venerable.

Death

On July 29, 2010, at 11:50 pm, Caron died from Ewing's sarcoma a type of bone cancer that mainly affected her pelvis and legs.

Cause for beatification

The Saint-François-de-Paule parish in Toulon is carrying out the preliminary steps for the opening of the cause with a view to the possible beatification of Anne-Gabrielle Caron, and the documents and testimonies on her are collected from 2018.

The cause was opened to the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon on September 12, 2019.[2] The Congregation for the Causes of Saints indicates that in May of 2020 that nothing stands in the way of this cause. The assembly of French bishops gives the June 10, 2020 a favorable opinion on the opening of this cause, after hearing the Bishop of Fréjus-Toulon on the subject.

The diocesan process for her beatification is officially opened in September of 2020. Anne-Gabrielle Caron is thus recognized as a “Servant of God”. The diocesan investigation continues, before being transmitted to Rome.
