Autopsy (forensic pathology)

An autopsy is a medical examination normally performed by a medical doctor that seeks to gather information about the state of health at the time of death and potential causes. Autopsies are part of forensic medicine, and are normally performed by pathologists. Autopsies are used to drive clinical and epidemiological research and are performed as part of an investigation into suspicious deaths.
