Semi-protected edit request on 25 October 2023

The statement regarding Brunei having previously been ruled by Buddhists has a citation referring to an article by Nicholl (1980). I have not read the article in full, but it seems that the information as presented on Wikipedia is based on the view of 'Maharaji Karna' and probably also his 'grandfather or uncle' being a) Buddhist, something not argued clearly in the article b) a king of 'Brunei'. The latter aspect appears to be based on Nicholl's equivalence of 'P'o-li' with Brunei, a stance refuted by Kurz, Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam, in his article 'Pre-modern Chinese Sources in the National History of Brunei: The Case of Poli'. 192.76.8.74 (talk) 12:43, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The source can be read here. It is an argument combining the mentioned view of P'o-li with contemporary writings by the Portuguese in Malacca. I don't currently have access to the Kruz source mentioned, so I'm unsure what change exactly should be made. Presumably the rulers were of some religions before the spread of Islam in the region. At the same time, I'm not sure how it's relevant to the Name section. CMD (talk) 13:04, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Misspelling

“Defence” should be edited to “defense”. This is either atrocious spelling and/or very poor editing.Quite embarrassing, in my opinion. Read what you wrote (like a teacher is grading it!). 32.221.243.140 (talk) 18:15, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Defence is correct since this article is written in British English.

Does this article still include biased sources?

@Symmachus Auxiliarus: This article has a POV tag: which sources in the article are biased in favor of Brunei's government? Jarble (talk) 13:42, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

remove second "revolt" which may be a typo

original text = The revolt had also revolt influenced the Sultan's decision not to join the Malaysian Federation while it was being formed. Punachar (talk) 02:18, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Official name

There appears to be an error in the statement that the official name of Brunei is "State of Brunei",its not the official name, we should replace "State of Brunei" with "Brunei Darussalam", if there is strong evidence of "State of Brunei" is the official name, there should be a citation.

Semi-protected edit request on 7 June 2024 (Brunei HDI year wrong)

Hdi year for brunei is incorrect, could someone change it? Change 2023 to 2022. If anyone reads this request and edits it, thanks.☺️ 175.143.184.210 (talk) 14:04, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The change to 2023 was part of a serious of unexplained and unsourced infobox changes, wondering if the others are also incorrect now. CMD (talk) 14:14, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. M.Bitton (talk) 16:21, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seems pretty clear they want to change 2023 to 2022. This was actually  Done here. CMD (talk) 16:53, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've pulled the rest back too, as another part has also been separately reverted already. CMD (talk) 17:04, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Original" but unsound research has polluted the Early History section

Can somebody clean up the Early History section? Somebody has brazenly vandalised it with an unsound narrative based on original "research" that lays out an atrociously convoluted history with a certain fictional Srivijayan-era polity (the "Kedatuan of Madjaas" whatever it is). Bollocks, all of it. TikumKadlum (talk) 20:40, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Brunei English from the Other languages. Should only include native & aboriginal languages of the population

Brunei English should removed from the Other languages section because it is not native to the country. Only native languages should be put in. PendekarSeri (talk) 14:14, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: "other languages" doesn't mean "native languages". M.Bitton (talk) 10:49, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
