1942: The Pacific Air War is a combat flight simulation created by MicroProse in 1994.This simulation features aerial combat, ground attack and air to naval engagements in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the Second World War in 1942-45 with the American versus Japanese Forces. This game although an older DOS based title remains popular among flight sim enthusiasts and has spawned a more popular sequel European Air War.1942:Pacific Air War can be played either as a flight simulator or as a wargame. As a flight simulator one can choose to either select a mission or enter a tour of duty.

This game can be considered a quasi-strategy game, due to player's ability to control fleets and land airbase in a campaign strategic map. When a battle occur between playable airplanes, player can jump to the cockpit of any aircraft in the map. It is a rare concept for a WWII Pacific War game, which is only repeated by recently released Buka Entertainment's Pacific Storm.
