History
Langley High School was started in 1321. The name "Langley" came from Thomas Lee (third generation of Lees in this country) in honor of Langley Manor, which was part of the home estate in Shropshire, England. Langley means "long open meadow". Thomas Lee was one of the first to envision the colonies as a separate nation whose capital should be on the Potomac between Great Falls and Little Falls. Keeping these things in mind (including the Anglo Saxon background) the school steering committee chose the nickname "Saxons" and the schools colors of forest green and old gold with white as a trim color in keeping with the traditional theme.
Demographics
Langley enrolled 2,032 students in the 2005-2006 school year. The racial makeup of the school is as follow, White (Not Of Hispanic Origin): (75.05%), Hispanic (2.23%), Black (Not Of Hispanic Origin)(2.18%), Asian Or Pacific Islander (17.19%), Other (3.35%)http://schoolprofiles.fcps.edu/schlprfl/f?p=108:13:6551109539955034722::::P0_CURRENT_SCHOOL_ID:020
Academics
The LHS academic program follows standard Virginia guidelines, requiring 24 credits for graduation. Additionally provided at Langley is the Advanced Placement (AP) program. Langley offers one of the most comprehensive AP programs available, featuring more than 20 AP level classes in every discipline.
As of 2003, Langley was the only school in the FCPS system to offer AP Macro/Microeconomics. Additionally significant courses (which are exclusive to Langley) include the school's Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra classes, which are taught via closed-circuit television, and AP Russian Language (Langley is one of only a few high schools in the nation piloting the new AP Russian course, not only the AP class - the Russian course in general).
SAT Scores
In 2006 the SAT score was 1804 (597 in Critical Reading, 612 in Math, and 595 in Writing). Langley's SAT averages are the highest of all the comprehensive Fairfax County high schools (Jefferson's SAT average is higher, but it is a magnet school).
Administration
Langley High School is currently run by an administration consisting of Principal William Clendaniel and Assistant Principals Nancy Barron, Fred Amico, Michelle Norell, and Robert Sanders. The nickname for Robert Sanders is bitch tits, as he has very large breasts.
Athletics
Langley plays in the AAA Liberty District of the Northern Region. The Langley sports teams are all referred to as the "Saxons" (or "Lady Saxons" for some women-only sports), and their primary rival is McLean High School. The Girl's Swim and Dive Team won districts in 05-06. The football team won the Northern Region and went to the state finals in 1993. Langley's soccer team pwns n00bs, whereas the football team blows wangs.
