Comment – I don't know what the precedent is, but it seems odd to move the female categories that have a male equivalent (e.g. Category:Female rappers by nationality and Category:Male rappers by nationality). That would result in an uneven pairing. It feels like there's a different context between the categories that are simply divided into male and female subcategories and the ones that only have a subcategory for women. Hi Mclay1! The point here isn't to move anything or change a balance, just to use the word "women" rather than "female" in those category names, as in Oculi's example above. They linked one of the recent precedents, & there's another *here*. The main justifications listed are:
Consistency: category naming conventions began moving from "female" to "women" a while back, so we have a lot of C2D & C2C situations; e.g., until recently, there was a "Female musicians" category noting "The main article for this category is Women musicians."
I don't necessarily agree with all that reasoning, but if we already have categories divided into male and women (however bizarre that is), then I guess this follows C2C. I would prefer there to be a larger discussion but I know there already has been several, and I don't intend to start another one. MClay1 (talk) 02:11, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed that it's bizarre; eventually the "male" categories will have to be dealt with, too, but *I* don't intend to start that discussion right now, either... Knifegames (talk) 04:54, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would support the move of composers category to "women", because most composers are not underage females. I am less certain about the singer categories, because child or adolescent singers (regardless of gender) are far from rare. Dimadick (talk) 19:06, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
