Motörhead article

[edit]

On the project page I note "Clean up the entirety of of unnecessary trivia, especially the main article" - is there some or is that a standard line?--Alf melmac 05:30, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, in my opinion, the main article has too many details about shows (Motörhead played two dates at the Arena Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires in April, 1993 and toured Europe from early June until early July, returning to the states to play one show at the New York Ritz on August 14.[20] - this is an example). They've done so many gigs over the years that I don't see the purpose of pointing out "normal, everyday" gigs like these. Roda 08:38, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose it could be reduced to just the named tours, though I personally don't see that it's unproportional, when I tried to pinpoint the early dates it gets very muddy very quickly. Shame you didn't say this much earlier though, like before I ever got started on trying to make the history of the band a complete picture. What kind of device should we use to decide which mentions of which are good and which ones aren't?--Alf melmac 10:47, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know I should have thought about this earlier, but I was too busy with college to participate. Maybe, we could mention just some noteworthy dates, like big audience shows, or shows with special guests (ok, maybe not all of these, considering how many they have done). I dunno, I'll read the article again and try to give some suggestions. Roda 11:08, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem, being "full" and deciding what we don't want is better than having "little" and grabbing hold of anything we can get. It has crossed my mind more than once that another option would be to have an article titled "Motörography" or similar - with all the dates in an easy layout to see, that would certainly take any pressure of the main article having so many and satisfy those who want a 'where and when guide'.--Alf melmac 12:19, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Or, since that already exist on Motörhead's official web site, just put the link to that. Roda 08:55, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The listings there don't give us the data about which shows were recorded and have had subsequent releases, the television and radio appearances also do not get explained as they do in some sources, in my sandbox is a mix of Burridge's info (mostly the first part) and the Motorhead site (the later stuff) I was hoping to get it all up to the same kind of standard but maybe it's just not worth it.--Alf melmac 09:17, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

if anyone knows how to evoke anything like Blackletter, please edit that in. And as an afterthought the background colour might look good in "project brown" instead of black. Feelings on this lot?--Alf melmac 19:30, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I like the new design better. It adds that Ace of Spades symbol in there. ;) Arundhati lejeune 16:07, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My only regret is it doesn't work as well in Internet Explorer as it does in FireFox and others (viewed using IE, it leave a white box around the ace).--Alf melmac 12:58, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Featured Article Candidate

[edit]

I hope those in the project will approve of me nudging Bubba hotep into putting the Motörhead article into the Featured Article process, the nomination is at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Motörhead, which you may wish to watchlist.--Alf melmac 23:15, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Update: the article was promoted to Featured Article status earlier today (update to candidacy page, update to article talk page header). Thanks to all those involved in getting it there.--Alf melmac 19:38, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lemmy -> Kilmister

[edit]

I thought I ought to raise this point here, I've noticed someone has gone through all of the Hawkwind and Motörhead articles changing the writers credits. As far as I'm aware, all of Lemmy's compositions (certainly the HW and early MH ones) have been published under his surname Kilmister. Have there ever been any songs published under the name "Lemmy"? Drwhawkfan 11:33, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I'm aware the credits are to "Lemmy Kilmister" on all the recordings that I've seen to date. I would suggest that, if we keep the article about him at Lemmy, then the credits should be listed as [[Lemmy|Lemmy Kilmister]]. If I recall right, I didn't care where his article was, as long as "what links here" was taken care of, as I'm chokka of people only doing the easy bit on page moving (hinting that I don't want to see the Lemmy article moved again).--Alf melmac 11:50, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, perhaps I haven't expressed myself precisely. I'm not suggesting moving the Lemmy article, merely correcting the writer's credits in album and single articles. They did use to be correct. Drwhawkfan 12:31, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for reading too much in there then. Yes they did used to be correct, I will, when the Motorhead featured article candidacy is over, go through, with my stack of Motorhead vinyls and CDs and check each entry again to ensure the names as credited on the release are listed correctly.--Alf melmac 12:37, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Soundbites

[edit]

The fair use thingy for audio says "clips may be used to identify a musical style, group, or iconic piece of music when accompanied by appropriate sourced commentary and attributed to the copyright holder. Samples should generally not be longer than 30 seconds or 10% of the length of the original song, whichever is shorter." There is only one article with audio at preset - Motorhead (single), which doesn't have the most ideal (definitive?) moments from the song and doesn't have supporting text, are people interested in identifying any "iconic pieces", finding sources for relevant commentary and recording the 'definitive' section(s) and uploading them for the articles? There's more info about what's ok and how to do at Wikipedia:Music samples.--Alf melmac 01:18, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Possible hoax report of death of Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor

[edit]

Someone earlier noted his death at Deaths in 2008 but didn't cite a source. I had certainly not heard any news. His article also said he'd died, but again, no source. I've reverted all this because as yet, there is no reliable source for this. I'm posting this here so anyone interested can keep an eye on his article. Thanks. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 22:06, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

[edit]

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Milestone Announcements

[edit]
Announcements
  • All WikiProjects are invited to have their "milestone-reached" announcements automatically placed onto Wikipedia's announcements page.
  • Milestones could include the number of FAs, GAs or articles covered by the project.
  • No work need be done by the project themselves; they just need to provide some details when they sign up. A bot will do all of the hard work.

I thought this WikiProject might be interested. Ping me with any specific queries or leave them on the page linked to above. Thanks! - Jarry1250 (t, c) 22:08, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request for comment on Biographies of living people

[edit]

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, many wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live!

[edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

[edit]

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

[edit]

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:48, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
