Amoeba order

[edit]

Why remove this section? It seemed relevant and well cited. Deltahedron (talk) 16:48, 9 August 2014 (UTC) Ah, I see it has been moved to Amoeba order. Deltahedron (talk) 19:07, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures of amoebas

[edit]

The last picture, regarding the polynomial P = 50*x^3 + 83*x^2*y + 24*x*y^2 + y^3 + 392*x^2 + 414*x*y + 50*y^2 - 28*x + 59*y - 100 is a bit misleading, because we see two tentacles going south, while there are three of them. What happens is that the left one divides (at height -3.35 roughly). This can be proved as follows: one has P(x,0)=50*x^3 + 392*x^2 - 28*x - 100, and this polynomial has 3 distinct roots, [-7.87885792913580, -0.484774745833761, 0.523632674969559]. Taking log of absolute values, this furnishes the three tentacles at abscissae [2.06418296051522, -0.724070937510925, -0.646964842444349] ACL-FMD (talk) 22:37, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
