Retta Thala is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed Kris Thirukumaran and produced by Bobby Balachandran under his BTG Universal banner.[1] The film stars Arun Vijay and Siddhi Idnani in the lead roles alongside Tanya Ravichandran in an important role.[2][3] The film also includes Kannada actor Yogesh Samy as an antagonist,[4] alongside Hareesh Peradi, John Vijay, Balaji Murugadoss, Yog Japee, and Vincent Asokan in supporting roles.[5]

The film has music composed by Sam C. S., editing handled by Anthony, and cinematography by Tijo Tomy.[4] The film was officially announced on 4 April with the working title AV36 and the title Retta Thala was revealed on 23 April 2024.[6] Principal photography began on 29 April and wrapped up on 1 October 2024.[7]

Development

On 4 April 2024, actor Arun Vijay's 36th film was launched with a working title AV36 by the director Lokesh Kanagaraj[8] after a formal puja in Chennai.[9][10] The film marks the third production venture of Bobby Balachanrdan under his BTG Universal banner headed by Dr. M. Manoj Beno.[1] The film also marks the third directorial venture of Kris Thirukumaran who is known for Maan Karate (2014) and Gethu (2016).[11] The action thriller film[12] stars Siddhi Idnani in the lead role alongside Tanya Ravichandran in a pivotal role[3] and Kannada actor Yogesh Samy making his debut in Tamil portraying the role of an antagonist.[4] The film comprises of an ensemble cast including Hareesh Peradi, John Vijay, Balaji Murugadoss, Yog Japee, and Vincent Asokan in supporting roles.[5]

The technical crew comprises of editor Anthony, cinematographer Tijo Tomy, along with popular stunt duo Anbariv and Prabhu as the stunt choreographers.[4] The music is composed by Sam C. S.[13]

Filming

Principal photography was planned to commence by the end of April 2024 in various locations like Goa, Pondicherry, Tharangampadi, Chennai, and abroad.[12] As planned, on 29 April, the filming process had begun.[14][15] On 7 June, an announcement regarding the wrap of the first schedule was made.[16][17] After a break, the team resumed its shooting[18] and on 26 September the makers announced their commencement of their short and final schedule at Goa.[19][20] The final schedule got wrapped on 1 October[21] and was officially confirmed by the film makers on 19 October.[7][22]

Marketing

On 23 April 2024, director Karthik Subbaraj, music director-actor G. V. Prakash Kumar, and actor Vishnu Vishal unveiled the title of the film Retta Thala,[2] meaning Double Heads with the first-look poster featuring the lead actor in dual roles.[23][6] Arun Vijay, over his social media handle acknowledged and thanked director AR Murugadoss for giving away the title rights that he had been holding for about 10 years for his project with Ajith Kumar.[24]
