The Red White Cabinet (Template:Lang-id) is the current Cabinet of Indonesia. It was announced by Prabowo Subianto on 20 October 2024.[1]
Despite that the cabinet will formally be activated on 21 October 2024, two Prabowo's Cabinet agencies already appointed and working near the end of Joko Widodo's Onward Indonesia Cabinet. The twelfth reshuffle done on 19 August 2024 already activated the Presidential Communication Office and the National Nutrition Agency.[2]
On 10 September 2024, Prabowo and Gibran Rakabuming Raka started the ministerial selection process after receiving the list of ministerial candidates.[3]
Known details
- In this cabinet, several ministries previously merged during the Joko Widodo administration and under previous presidencies will be undone. The Ministry of Public Works and Housing is the first ministry confirmed to be split into two ministries, the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Public Housing.[4]
- In addition, several new ministries will result from the spin-off of existing ministries. On 25 September 2024, the Directorate General of Taxes and Directorate General of Customs and Excise confirmed by Prabowo that these two general directorates will be spin-off from the Ministry of Finance to the newly formed Ministry of Internal Revenue.[5]
- Four of the ministers will be Taruna Nusantara alumni.[6]
- The cabinet will be a zakenkabinet. Once formed, this will be fourth zakenkabinet formed in Indonesia.[7] Previously, Indonesia had three short-lived zakenkabinets: Natsir Cabinet, Wilopo Cabinet, and Djuanda Cabinet.
- This cabinet will be the first cabinet that will have more ministries than 34 after the limitation of the ministerial numbers is lifted.[8] Zulkifli Hasan, Chairman of National Mandate Party said that Prabowo ministers will be around 44.[9] The number could even be increased to 54.[10]
- Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) potentially joined the Prabowo administration.[11] If PDI-P joined the government, this would be the first time there would be no opposition against the ruling government since the New Order period up until the Fifth Development Cabinet. On 20 October 2024, PDI-P announced its support to Prabowo despite not sending any of its cadres as ministers.[12] Rendering no opposition against Prabowo administration in DPR.
Change in ministerial nomenclatures
On 10 October 2024, the ministerial nomenclature of the Prabowo Cabinet leaked to the public. The list is supposed to be reserved for the People's Representative Council (DPR). DPR confirmed the leak but noted that the list may be updated. The upcoming cabinet will consist of 46 ministries. Many of those are new ministries split from previous ministries.[13][14][15][16]
