Dr. Corrine Almeida has a Ph.D. degree.[1]
Career and Research
Dr. Almeida has been intertwined with Biological Oceanography for over two decades.[2] She has been a lecturer at the Institute of Marine Engineering and Sciences (ISECMAR) within the Atlantic Technical University and is the Deputy Director of the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL).[3] The aims of the WASCAL initiative are to build capacity and research on Africa's Climate Resilience- further funding developments and encouraging wide-spread dissemination and education.[4] One key contribution is WASCAL's Waste-to-Energy (W2E) plant, which has cutting-edge technologies to generate energy from municipal waste.[5]
Additionally, she is the Director of The Atlantic Technical University, Cabo Verde.[6] This program is in close collaboration with the GEOMAR Helmhotlz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, the University of Kiel, and the Thünen Institute.[6] It prepares West African students for further studies, or professional careers as managers or experts in the industry or governmental agencies.[6]
Dr. Almeida has primary research interest in ecology and coral community conservation within Marine Protected Areas.[2] She additionally serves as a marine and coastal environmental consultant.[2]
