dodger edit

why did u remove my edit that said Andre Ethier will stay in LA till 2017??? Riesgoforlife — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riesgoforlife (talkcontribs) 18:19, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

It was in the wrong place, you placed it in the place for offseason player signings... That info properly belongs on Ethier's page (where it is included) but doesn't really belong on the season page.. Spanneraol (talk) 18:24, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

An invitation for you!

Mnap 25

Is there anything we can do to make this user start updating the dates along with the stats? His continual failure to do so after being asked twice could be considered disruptive. AutomaticStrikeout (talk) 23:35, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

I haven't been able to get him to respond to my questions.. not sure what the next step should be. Spanneraol (talk) 23:53, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
I may try asking an administrator what the protocol should be. First though, I'll try to discuss it with Mnap 25 one more time. AutomaticStrikeout (talk) 00:10, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Re: Don Mattingly plaque

I've been dinged on that being unreferenced in a review before. I want to say it was the GA review of Allie Reynolds, but it might've been a different article. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:24, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

I think i've fixed most of your concerns... dont have time to deal with the contradiction stuff just now.. might take a look at it later. Spanneraol (talk) 19:31, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
I was planning on looking at it later as well. Do you wanna team up on this to bring it to GA? I have a good collaboration with TonyTheTiger on Philip Humber, it made things much easier. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:37, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm not sure I'm a good enough writer to get it up to that level.. I havent gone through that process before... I can help out as much as possible though.Spanneraol (talk) 01:27, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
You haven't? I'm surprised. I think you're good enough to do it. Mattingly's article looks like it needs more sources, some NPOV/encyclopedic language, and that might be enough. Come on, he's your manager, my childhood idol... – Muboshgu (talk) 01:39, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Stu Pederson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page University of the Pacific (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Steven Rodriguez

The callup won't affect his appearing in the AFL. You can have MLB experience and play in the AFL, as long as you still retain rookie status.

This article is almost long enough to nominate at DYK. It just needs a hook, which I think is his being the first 2012 draftee to reach the show. I'm planning on nominating it once I see that in a source. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:04, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Sounds good. Probably wont have a source for that (other than twitter links) till closer to game time. Spanneraol (talk) 22:17, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
LA Times would be preferable. The rule for DYK is articles created in the last five days, so we have through the weekend, by which point I imagine he will have debuted. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:20, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
I have a mlb.com article as a reference for that right now. Spanneraol (talk) 04:30, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Reading Phillies

If you feel that's correct, then I'll stop, but I'm not going to undo what I've done. Basically, I've been removing players from Category:Reading Phillies players and adding them to Category:Reading Fightin Phils players. Joel amos (talk) 21:55, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

As I've already stated, if you feel you're correct, I'll stop. My reasoning was that although the team name changed, the team is still the team. Probably bad reasoning. Joel amos (talk) 21:58, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for taking initiative and undoing all that. Joel amos (talk) 22:11, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

That's possible. I don't really care (or know) very much about minor league players who's aren't from around my area or have no affiliation with the Phillies organization or haven't played in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball...those are pretty much the only ones I've ever heard of. Go Phightins! 03:40, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

40 man

I agree I don't think every player on the 40 should automatically get an article. But I do think some are notable enough. I usually don't create the ones I don't think are notable. I think you might want to give the message to Muboshgu, who has created all the guys that got added.--Yankees10 18:14, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Vlad Guerrero

Hi, I noticed you keep taking out Tigres del Licey from the infobox listing Vladimir Guerrero's professional teams. In order to give a complete picture of his pro career, it needs to stay. The time of year that they play baseball in the Dominican Republic is irrelevant. It is the country's top flight league and there is precedent all over wikipedia for athletes who play in the top-flight of a country's league, like Doug Flutie or Fernando Torres. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.206.143.173 (talk) 01:09, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for initiating a discussion rather than edit warring. The first discussion I can find on this is linked here. Mexican League teams are technically considered AAA teams, therefore we don't include them in infoboxes. We do, as the aforementioned discussion indicates, usually note leagues such as the NPB, which is the top league in Japan, but since the MLB is the top league in America, that is the only one we tend to note in a player's infobox. Go Phightins! 01:38, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
The winter leagues are basically developmental leagues that contain various MLB players that are playing to get extra work, or in Vlad's case prove he still has it... They aren't considered Major Leagues and it has long been the policy at WP:BASEBALL to only include Major Leagues in the info boxes, such as MLB or NPB.. not Mexican league teams or dominican teams or any other of the so-called winter leagues. Thanks man!

Thanks for the catch on Charlie Roy. It still seems odd to me since Charlie was born on the reservation in Minnesota (and in the 1900s, sources suggest he went home to Minnesota) and Luther was born in Tennessee. I suspect half-brothers or something, but that is all just playing. Stranger things have happened than two brothers born 20 years apart in two very different places. Regardless, thanks for adding details.AbstractIllusions (talk) 19:54, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Deletion sorting

Hi Spanneraol, when you add an AfD to a delsort page such as you did with John Whittleman at Baseball (step 1), you need to tag the AfD by adding the relevant tag (step 2), in this case {{subst:delsort|Baseball|~~~~}} , which will inform editors that it has been listed there & avoid it possibly being listed more then once. This is the second time I've contacted you on this issue will you please remember to fully complete your delsorts in future. Regards ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 00:15, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Oh, i need to leave something for you to complain about.Spanneraol (talk) 00:34, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
No need for the smart comment, if I make a mistake & a user sends me a message about it, I don't take it personally. I learn from it & try to avoid making similar mistakes in the future, I suggest you do likewise. I don't see why you'd go to the trouble of doing something & then only half completing it. ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 00:53, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Merry Christmas

Also, I have a question for you. I've done some looking around and I've decided to offer to nominate you for adminship, if you'd like. AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 20:46, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

I certainly can understand that. AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 20:10, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Jim Hoey

I did check. All I can find is a reference to a tweet. That is not a solid reference.

Please when you update an article provide a valid reference. I still don't see one, and yes I Googled. I also checked MLBTR.Cpfan776 (talk) 03:09, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

I see references to him signing at several sites... and a tweet from a credible reporter is usually good enough to make a change.. obviously better sources can be added eventually but tweets from reporters are the fastest way to get news... usually before they have time to write up the actual story. Spanneraol (talk) 03:17, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
As a Jays fan I remember a reputable reporter tweeting that Darvish was coming to the Jays. It wasn't true. That's why Wikipedia wants solid references. BTW, none of those sites could provide a reference that could be added to the body of the article? That way the rest of us wouldn't have to do Google searches (etc) to establish fact or fantasy. Cpfan776 (talk) 03:43, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
There is a difference between speculation and saying someone has signed. Spanneraol (talk) 04:02, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
How is Hoey differnt than Ibanez? He signed a deal with the Mariners, and there are articles about it. Cpfan776 (talk) 12:44, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Ibanez just agreed to a deal, Hoey signed a deal... slight but important difference. Also, when it comes to minor league signing they usually don't have official announcements.. If he doesn't show up in the next edition of baseball america's minor league transactions list then you can change it back.Spanneraol (talk) 14:41, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Baseball

Hey man, I am a recent joiner of the Baseball project. I saw that you created the article for the 2013 San Francisco Giants season. What is the best way for me to get involved and help out? Does someone normally agree to update a page throughout the season? Anyway, I'd love to help out so please let me know any advice you have! Thanks! --15:01, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

I created most of the season pages... though I really only update the Dodgers pages myself... if you want to jump in and help out go right ahead... If the season pages are your thing, I'd suggest you go back and look at how they were done for past seasons.... different people update the pages in different ways but their are some general style things that should stay the same to keep the pages consistent. I know that the guy who does the Cardinals seasons uses more stat tables than i do for the Dodgers, but you should look at several of the 2012 seasons and see what was done on those. The project could certainly use the help, so welcome aboard. Spanneraol (talk) 15:40, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good! Hope I can continue to talk to you despite your being a Dodgers fan. ;-) Thanks for the tips though! I will definitely try to help out wherever I can. Happy holidays. --Zackmann08 (talk) 15:42, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

The article 1920 Major League Baseball season has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced, and no notability proved

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Gaps in baseball infoboxes

WRT to Victor Martinez, I don't care how it's represented as long as it's consistent. I was just going by John Smoltz. Where is it documented? — X96lee15 (talk) 20:51, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

There was a discussion awhile back... but in effect the info box only lists when players played, not when they missed a year due to injury. See Jason Schmidt for one example. The Smoltz page is incorrect. Spanneraol (talk) 22:44, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I wonder if a WP:BASEBALL/MOS is in order to consolidate consensuses such as this into one place.— X96lee15 (talk) 18:16, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Heath Bell

Regarding your edit, it seems notable that long-time closer Bell is being brought in as a setup man. Curious what your objection is. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 20:21, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

It seems like too much speculation at this point as spring training is just starting... and the manager makes that decision usually, not the GM... also the bit about the GM being in San Diego years ago seemed a bit trivial. Spanneraol (talk) 00:40, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
I see your point to an extent. However, I think the key point bewteen now and Opening Day is that there is already a closer in Ariz and the plan (or course nothing is guaranteed) is that he would be setup guy. And the GM's opinion was reliably sourced.—Bagumba (talk) 01:14, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Good call

Hey, just to say that I saw you had taken over/become embroiled in the conversation about "Ramirez" over at the BLPN, I got fed up, took a mini-wiki break to do other stuff etc. Just to say that the "Personality" section title is more neutral IMO, there's no other place to put this info, and thanks for finding an article that actually says quirky. I see that I'm accused (again) of entirely making up the stuff about "his quirky behavior and attitude" and that "it's just an editor's opinion", which I find very strange as I didn't know who the guy was, I don't give two hoots, and was just summarizing the RS to make it BLP-compliant, compared to the junk that was there before. Oh well.... Anyway, I've added the tag as requested by the IP, cheers! CaptainScreebo Parley! 16:13, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Yea I got fed up with the fact that the IP didn't seem to be listening to what I said and kept claiming my comments were "irrelevant"... so i backed out of the discussion... not worth it really... I wrote a lot of the Ramirez article so i took it a bit personal (though i did not add the manny being manny stuff). I'm sure the IP will eventually get his way since he ignores all other comments. Spanneraol (talk) 16:59, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Well, I got fed-up and kinda confused for something that seemed a fairly regular BLP issue (cut the crap and rewrite what's left encyclopaedically), when the IP turned round and seemed to backtrack on what they had previously said was fine. The section as is seems fine, not undue and relevant as it seems to be a persistent trait of character (his quirkiness and all). CaptainScreebo Parley! 17:25, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Removing the Wild Card standings template

Hey there! I see you recently removed {{2013 NL Wild Card standings}} from 2013 Los Angeles Dodgers season. Care to explain why? TCN7JM 04:46, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Because I don't like that template. It is loo big and takes up too much space on the page... I don't like that it contains the division leaders, which is not relevant on individual team pages. It might be fine on the overall MLB page but is a waste of space on the team pages. Even newspapers dont carry a full wild card standings list until near the end of the season. I'm not going to fight you on the other team pages but I maintain the Dodgers page and I don't want it there. Spanneraol (talk) 12:28, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
That reason seems to violate WP:OWN. All 29 of the other team pages have the template, so the Dodgers' one is just going to be inconsistent. Your original reasoning at WT:MLB was that you wanted to wait until the season started, so I did. TCN7JM 12:40, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
The fact that all the other teams have a terrible template is no reason to include it on this one. I can nominate it for deletion if you would prefer. Spanneraol (talk) 12:45, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
Sorry... was in a bad mood this morning... I just don't like having lots of tables on the season pages. Spanneraol (talk) 15:11, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
I still think this violates WP:OWN, but I'll leave it for now. I still think it should be added for consistency later in the season. TCN7JM 01:45, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
