Ceiling fire
Some time ago I remeber seeing a music video in which a rapper was spinning the song "the roof is on fire" and the cieling in the back of the room actually caught fire. He stopped the song and remarked to the crowd that the celing really was on fire, but they thought it was part of the song and urged him to finish as the fire on the cieling began to spread. Anyone know the name of the song or where I could find the music video? 70.254.22.164 07:25, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

What is that film called

- The question about the film with the drowning kid above, brought to mind another film. In it, a boy is talked into jumping of (I think) a railway bridge by his older brother and his brother's friend, but when he jumps, a log comes from under the bridge and he lands on it on his back. He would've drowned if it wasn't for the kids saving him, but he ends up paralyzed in a wheelchair. The rest of the story involves the older brother's feelings of guilt, a doctor who examines the kid for the possibility of a risky operation falling in love with his mother. I think the older brother may have been played by Brendan Fletcher or Kevin Zegers, but it could be someone else entirely. Has anyone got an idea which film I'm talking about? - Mgm|(talk) 09:07, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- When was it made? About how old were the brothers? Have you scanned the IMDb profiles of those actors? − Twas Now ( talk • contribs • e-mail ) 00:41, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'd say it was made in the 1990s or very early 2000s. I suspect it was someone else after all because non of the IMDB titles ring a bell. - Mgm|(talk) 08:51, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Ian McShane
I was looking at random articles, and found this interesting information on the Ian McShane article:"He was born with six toes and six fingers, which were removed after he was born." Now obviously, this is badly written (unless he has no fingers or toes!), but I don't just want to correct it to polydactyly (or something similar) without actually knowing that he was born with 6 digits on each hand and foot. Does anybody know the answer? Snorgle 15:52, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- The answer seems to be that someone's having fun with the article. Now they've added that he has size five feet, again without any attribution. Please feel free to remove unattributed trivia like this from all articles, especially those of living persons. --Charlene 00:38, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Rolling Stones Album
In 1978, the Rolling Stones cut an album titled " Some Girls ". The album cover itself had pictures of famous people. After printing and distributing the first 250,000 albums, several of these people whose picture was on the album sued for "copyright infringment", because they never gave permissions to use their picture. The unsold albums were pulled from store shelves and returned to the record company, and were replaced by albums whose cover had the pictures blanked out, with the words " Album under construction " in the blanked out areas. Is there any record of how many of the original albums were sold?
- According to the article (Some Girls), the album went gold in the US after three days (500,000 sales) and platinum after thirteen days (1,000,000 sales). I imagine they didn't pull them until at least three days had passed, so at least 500k were probably sold. − Twas Now ( talk • contribs • e-mail ) 00:27, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Archos and iTunes, audio quality
Hello,
I am looking to purchase a new MP3 player to replace my old iPod Mini. I really have narrowed it down to either the Archos 604 (or WiFi version), 504, or another iPod Video. With the patch for Archos that allows AAC files to be put onto the device, does this include the use of iTunes with these devices? Also, I have heard that audio quality is not top-notch on the Archos devices. Can anyone help me decide and obtain the true facts? Thanks a lot!

Nazi Resistance Movie (plot spoiler)
Hello,
this is driving me a little nuts, but many decades ago I saw an excellent foreign film about Nazi invasion, which I cannot remember the name of. I think it was set in Poland. I would like to find this film again, I think the title was one word. (SPOILER) Nazi invasion was resisted by activists in a music college, by music students, I believe one was a cello player. The ending was very tragic because the Nazi's found all of them one by one, and the last two leaders were trapped in the basement of the school and the Nazi's flooded the basement. As the water rises up around their necks you see the two heroes lovingly grasp each other's face, say goodbye and shoot each other in the head, Last scene, you see their bodies floating on the surface of the water, as it rises to the ceiling. One of the greatest movies I've ever seen. Can anyone identify this film for me, name and director? I thought the name started with a P but I can't be sure. Missmink 05:56, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Is it an American film? --Kirby♥time 06:55, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
No, I think it was a subtitled Polish film. I read some descriptions of some Wajda films and it didn't sound like any of those, although they sound very gripping as well. It was many years ago but if I recall correctly I believe it was in black and white. (Or perhaps I saw it on a black and white telly, sorry, I don't remember)
- It does not quite fit all of the details you have given, but part of your outline reminds me of the plot of Atentat, a Czech film that deals with the events surrounding the assassination in Prague in 1942 of Reinhard Heydrich, Reichsprotektor of Bohemia and Moravia. Clio the Muse 00:28, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
To tell the truth, I am now not at all sure it was a Polish film, it could have been one of those Slavic countries. The image I do remember vividly is their bodies swirling in the rising water as the Nazi's flooded the basement in the last scene. That, and the fact that the resistance fighters in this film were students at a music school. But thank you for the movie tip, I'll have to check out that movie Atentat, sounds interesting. :^)
- Actually, it sounds very much like Wajda's Samson. Some versions don't include the last scene (which is rife with subtle pro-Communist propaganda), where Jakob meets his end in the underground hideout with the communist leader Pankrat. --Charlene 03:55, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Speaking of being underground, have you seen Kanal, also set in Poland, a brilliant depiction of the tragedy of the Home Army in the 1944 Warsaw Rising? Clio the Muse 09:19, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
I've heard of Kanal but when I read the description it didn't sound like the movie I've been looking for, neither does the desciption of Samson. I'll look them up and try to watch them, they sounded very good. The movie about the music students would have been made earlier than 1976, by my best recollection. Thanks for all the tips, everyone!
The movie in question is the 1975 American film "Operation Daybreak" starring Timothy Bottoms and Martin Shaw. I too was trying to find out the name of the film by using the internet and searching with the key words: film water rising heroes shoot each other. And I came across this wiki dialogue and traced it through the keys words in this Q and A. The power of the internet! Thanks! And on to search for it on DVD.
Snatch of tune from SWII: AotC
While watching Attack of the Clones in the cinema (a long time ago now) I heard a snatch of a tune I thought I recognised over a scene with a lot of clone troopers mounting (or dismounting from) transports. I initially thought I recognised it from one of the "original trilogy" sound tracks, but having listened to them over and over I can't spot it.
Then I came across Droid Invasion Theme which, according to the description, might be the one I'm looking for. It seems to have been played in the right place, and it certainly came from an earlier movie (although I'm disappointed it's episode I, not one of the older ones). However, I've no way of knowing right now whether it' the right one, as the article doesn't have a stave or sample. Is it the one that goes a bit like this?
Cheers. Rawling4851 15:29, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
writing a ficton novel
i need help. i'm a starting author and i need some help. i need an editor if one wants to vounlteer. i just plain need help with this. i can't do it my self. i have good ideas but trouble froming them toghter to make coherent thoughts for anyone but me. here is what i got so far. Dragoon: the Dragonfire experiment
Note form author: I hope you enjoy this book. This is my first time writing anything this big. To me a great book is a book that takes you places. Places like the moon with out leaving you home. I hope this book is like that for you. Dragooners unite!!! Jordan Lindsay
Prologue: It is the year 6140 A.D. In the year 6020 A.D. humanity had a huge chemical war. During this war 95% of the Earth was contaminated with radiation. Now Earthians have moved to the colonies in the Dagnahthe system. There are three major colonies and 6 minor. The major are Kanka, Sasasa, and Fightggaga. The minor are Sassad, Rujaf, Bulegasd, Uinolr, Higttere and Runvan. This is a history of the dragoons and me. The Historian, Mical Yas
Chapter 1: *This is it* I thought *I am going to get it this time.* I was late for my lessons on the planet’s history. (I know, I know I may call my self “The Historian” but during my youth I hated history, especially Earth history. The history about wars was interesting but we mostly talked about politics.) I was running though the streets of Callythe, the minor colony Rujaf’s capital. “Run Mical run” said Cantol, my dragon sprit. (Dragons have been extinct for 6000 years before Earthians showed up in the Dagnahthe system. Their sprits can only be found on three of the minor planets: Rujaf, Bulegasd, and Uinolr. Most of the time, though, people cannot see them. Only 5% of the general population can see them. Only 5% of the 5% can talk to them.) I finally made it to the class. “Why are you not wearing your soka?” Mr. Jonata asked. I realized I was wearing my house clothes. “I woke up late and didn’t have time to change,” I replied. “Lazy is more like it,” Mr. Jonata said, “you were probably hanging out with Jona.” My ears turned red. They always did when he talked about my friend, Jona. So what if I had a friend who was a 6th generation Earthian and therefore a Dagnahthean while I, myself, was just a 5th. “Sit down,” Mr. Jonta said; his voice cutting though my thoughts like a hot knife cutting though melted butter. I sat down. Jodab said, “Man you where cutting it close. How is Cantol?” “He is fine. What did I miss?” “Not much.” I finally listened to Mr. Jonta’s lesson. It was some stupid history about how the Earthians came to be in the Dagnahthe system. I had heard the story from my parents and they from theirs. I just doodled what Cantol looked like. At the end of class Mr. Jonta said, “Mical, I want to see you.” “Good luck” Jobad said. “Yes Mr. Jonta?” I asked. “Why are you always late to class?” said Mr. Jonta. “Because I can’t focus on school work.” “I know that is not true, during art you excel.” “Yes, but at drawing fantasy.” “Just because you focus on that dragon sprit that you claim you have.” “Just because you can’t see him doesn’t mean he doesn’t exist!” “Well until someone shows me different I say the dragon sprits do not exist. You may go.” “Yes sir,” I replied. I ran to the apartment I share with my brothers and my parents. As I went in the door, my mom yelled at me “to get in here” as she put it. “Yes?” “You were late again, weren’t you?” “Yes mom.” “Why? Were you talking with that Jona kid again?” “Mom, what is wrong with me spending time with him?” “He just looks bad, that’s what.” “Mom!!!” “Just go to your room.”
Chapter 2:
20 year later
I had graduated from the basic school and was currently in college. I had heard from Jona that all available dragon whisperers are to report to the Admiral of the planet. When I got there I told the guards that I was here for an audience with the Admiral of the planet concerning the dragon whisperers. They let me through, and I went to the dining chamber. When I got there I found out that only 6 people had come. I was the 6th person. Much to my surprise, the other 5 were my friends. Jona was there. Jobad was too. There was also Regmad, Zoro, (his parents were Spanish so they named him after a Spanish hero) and Rfat.
The admiral said, “Good, good, everybody is here.”
I spoke up, saying, “What are we here for?”
He replied, “I have heard about the whispers. My scientists want to know more about the sprits and their uses.”
“Well, what can we tell them?” I asked.
“How about the history of the dragons?” he said.
“Okay but I doubt most of us can spend that much time here. I know I can’t because I am in college.” I stated
“We will pay you and house you for free,” he commented. “You’ll also get free meals.” By this time, the food had arrived. We started to eat. After we ate, the Admiral said, “I’ll give you all a minute to talk among yourselves,” and left the room.
“I don’t know about this…” said Zoro.
“Yeah, I don’t like it.” agreed Rfat
“Come on, free food, free homes, and payment for talking. It’s like we are politicians without a degree in politics.” I said.
“I think Mical is right” said Cantol.
“Haven’t seen you in a while” I said.
“I’ve been around.” Cantol remarked
Then Sasee, Jona’s sprit, appeared and said “I agree with Cantol. I would be happy to talk to them.”
Then every one else’s sprits showed up. They numerously decided that we should stay. The admiral knocked on the door.
“Have you decided yet?” he inquired.
“Yes” we stated in unison.

- If you want advice, your writing needs some basic grammar and spelling proofreading. Secondly, some of your characters are introduced suddenly and with no background or context. Finally, your "chapters" are much too short to be considered chapters, and twenty or more of those would still likely not fill an average sized book. I hope that my comments are not taken as too harsh, but if you truly wish to improve, you should take all the constructive criticism you can get. - AMP'd 22:40, 20 April 2007 (UTC) P.S.: Check out our article on writing process.
- I agree with most of the above. Sudden introductions of new characters can sometimes be an effective writing technique, though. There seems to be some confusion in the writing between dragons and dragoons, and the words form and from. StuRat 14:23, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I liked it. You should check out Wikipedia:Sandbox/Storytelling and post it there. You won't get much feedback though - its not like it used to be in the good old days How old are you? No, I'm not being stupid, its just I know some really good writing sites for teenagers. Think outside the box 13:01, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Also, Several of your characters have similar names, and it might be a good idea to establish a backstory explaining further the world in which this story takes place. Perhaps the teacher in the first chapter could help with that. - AMP'd 21:08, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

About a Digimon episode...
In the Digimon season 4 epiosde "Sockit Takuya!", there was a part where Ranamon wants Zoe, and then it cuts to a pinkish background where Ranamon asked Zoe what it would be like to be squashed like a bug. Then, J.P. stepped in and defended Zoe. Then when J.P. and ZOe hugged, it cut back to reality and Zoe asked J.p> what was he doing. I was wondering about the pinkish place if it was inside Zoe's mind. If it is inside Zoe's mind, then how did J.P. went into her mind?

the ringer
Having just watched The Ringer, I was wondering where the title came from... the article doesn't say 68.231.151.161 18:05, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- As the first definition of Ringer says, a ringer is someone or some animal impersonating another, weaker contestant. This was sometimes done in horseraces. Clarityfiend 18:21, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- To clarify, they aren't impersonating any particular person, but rather are pretending to be a member of some qualifying class. For example, a company softball team might bring in a professional ball player to win. This person isn't really a company employee, so doesn't qualify. They might hire the player for the duration of a game, in order to skirt around the rules, however. This is considered to be rather unsportsmanlike behavior. StuRat 03:39, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- In a horse race, the ringer does impersonate a specific animal (to get better odds). This was the plot of a Banacek episode, "Horse of A Slightly Different Color". Clarityfiend 07:13, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, but that's not the def used in the movie. StuRat 16:53, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Titanic film
Does Rose die at the end of the film? Also in the scene where the grand staircase is destroyed and the corridors torn apart, can that be considered factually accurate? --HadzTalk 21:15, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- You have to take anything in a fictional movie with a grain of salt. Often special effects are exaggerated and details left out. For instance, Titanic had two grand staircases, one fore, one aft. The fore one is the famous one (it had the clock, for instance) but it's the aft staircase that was destroyed by the ship tearing apart and the No. 2 funnel falling on top of it. Robert Ballard's photographs of the wreck show that the steel structure of the fore staircase is intact, but that the wood is gone (likely eaten by wood-eating microbes). (Edited to correct something I wrote.)
- If you want to learn more about the RMS Titanic, a good start is our article. Another good place is Encyclopedia Titanica [2]. However, I'd avoid our article on the Grand Staircase itself, as it is in error - at least until I get it corrected with attributions to reliable sources.
- I don't know about Rose, sorry. --Charlene 00:54, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Rose does not die at the end. She is the OLD LADY with the Sapphire that she throws into the sea.-Czmtzc 15:13, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- But the scene where she and Jack are reunited onboard the ship at the end comes before the scene where she threw La coeur de la mer into the atlantic --HadzTalk 15:58, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes but the old lady who begins the film narrating is supposed to be Rose telling the story. she must have survived to tell the story at such an age. Or am I missing something? ny156uk 21:49, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, of course she survives to tell the story. The question is about the final few scenes: old woman drops jewel into the ocean, young Rose meets Jack again on Titanic. I think this could be interpreted as Rose dying after tossing the rock, but I think it's not conclusive (probably on purpose).Lukas 02:36, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie James Dio, Black Sabbath
Hi, I wanted to know the genre of Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Rainbow and Dio. Or better, I wanted to know if they're heavy metal or hard rock, because somebody tell metal somebody hard rock. Please answer!! --87.7.137.168 19:31, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well each of the pages you have linked has an info-box with a "Genre" line. Black Sabbath and Dio are listed only as Heavy Metal, while Ozzy and Rainbow are tagged with both Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. It can be quite difficult to determine exactly which characteristics fit any specific sub-genre of rock music, especially two that are so close in style. In fact, our article on Heavy Metal states - The terms "heavy metal" and "hard rock" are often used interchangeably, in particular when discussing bands from the 1970s, a period when the terms were largely synonymous. --LarryMac 20:04, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

SNL personnel questions
I don't watch SNL or anything else due to not having TV, but I occasionally watch clips on youtube and other sites. I've been using WP, IMDb and other sites to figure out who these actresses are, but to no avail. So... Who is the actress who played Harry Potter in THIS skit and the short old maid in THIS skit (The other two are Scarlett Johannson and Tina whatsername), and who's the actress playing Jane Pauley in THIS skit? Thanks in advance. Anchoress 01:27, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- The actress in the first two is Rachel Dratch;
I'm not sure about the third one.The third one is Kristen Wiig. Carom 01:42, 24 April 2007 (UTC)- Wow, thanks for the quick and complete response. Anchoress 01:49, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
