Potential sockpuppetry?

Hi, hope you're doing good. I believe it is "a needle in the haystack" situation for two new accounts (maybe in addition to an older account) to find out about and simultaneously edit two (1, 2) newly-created articles. I'm not sure if this relates to a prior LTA. I was considering reporting, but I am unsure about the exact connection and if this is something else other than sockpuppetry. Just wanted to point this out in case you find any clear red flags. Cheers, Aintabli (talk) 05:00, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Aintabli. That was my thought as well. But I've unfortunately no idea who it could be, its starting to get hard to keep track of all the socks. Socking is way too easy on this site, unfortunately. HistoryofIran (talk) 13:40, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Sam Mirza

The article Sam Mirza you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Sam Mirza for comments about the article, and Talk:Sam Mirza/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article is eligible to appear in the "Did you know" section of the Main Page, you can nominate it within the next seven days. It may be necessary to verify the reference Erik Goldstein, "Wars and Peace Treaties: 1816 to 1991", page 67, for the result. A cursory check on amazon indicates page 67 covers the Pacific War 1941-5. It could be simply the wrong page number. --Kansas Bear (talk) 16:37, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Kansas Bear. I'll take care of it. HistoryofIran (talk) 17:17, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Well, I can see they altered sourced info, so I've reverted them. But more context would be appreciated. HistoryofIran (talk) 22:38, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request for feedback

Hi, I apologize if this is a bad place for this, but I have noticed you're active on pages for Iranian history (it's in your name of course), and saw you multiple times in the talk page for Xerxes I. I have a topic open on the page for Xerxes I regarding a dispute over the placement of user titles in the ruler's infobox, and I am looking for external feedback. I thought I would reach out to you directly.

Again, I apologize if this is not a good place for this, and for any inconvenience caused. AliceBelmont (talk) 23:02, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AliceBelmont, nice to meet you. I am kinda ambivalent about this topic, so unfortunately I don't think I will participate. Bests. HistoryofIran (talk) 23:07, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, and appreciate the response. I am sorry if it was a bother. I hope you have a nice day. AliceBelmont (talk) 01:56, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ghurid madhab

I was reading the Cambridge history of Iran, and found out that the Ghurids adhered to the Shafi’i madhab. May I edit the Ghurid article and add this info? I will put the citation as well. Tajik Khan (talk) 03:08, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't WP:OWN the article, so by all means, go ahead if you have a citation (you can read more about citation formatting here WP:CITE) to back it with. May I ask why are you asking me? Have we met before? HistoryofIran (talk) 03:34, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see, thank you. I am new to Wikipedia and thought you were the major admin for these Iranian articles, I also saw you in the edit history. Tajik Khan (talk) 04:22, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, it appears the page is locked, does my account need certain requirements or do I need permission? Tajik Khan (talk) 03:29, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh right, it's protected. You can make a edit request (see WP:EDITREQ) in the talk page of the article, then someone will take a look at it. HistoryofIran (talk) 12:35, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ho hum

Am I right in assuming Shahab Uddin 555 is a Najaf ali bhayo sock? DMacks (talk) 18:54, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ponyo nailed it. DMacks (talk) 19:46, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Noice. I am (unfortunately?) not familiar with this sock. HistoryofIran (talk) 20:42, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I know that un-alerted ANI discussions can be a bit annoying. :) SirMemeGod12:14, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help a new user out?

So, there is this person which I believe has got several accounts/IPs which they use to edit different articles, to avoid detection- and they are not good news for me. Can you help? Here are some examples of their rather odd editing habits:

Shah Ismail Dehlvi:

Deobandi movement

Barelvi movement

You might be wondering, why out of all the people on Wikipedia am I telling this to you, well it seems you are familiar with this sockpuppeter, and can give answer me as to whether or not the account and IPs all belong to the same editor which I think they do, or whether I have an over-active imagination. Perhaps they are different people who got up to similar unconstructive things, who knows. HyperShark244 (talk) 19:32, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Missed this one over at Barelvi movement! [9] HyperShark244 (talk) 19:40, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and one thing to note- the big problem here is the IPs. 39.62.206.38 (talk), the IP that was behind the edit in example [9] above, has got around two dozen edits on their record! If you start an investigation, please investigate as many of the of the IPs as you can, as these IPs cause the most disruption. HyperShark244 (talk) 20:13, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi HyperShark244, I'll take a look. HistoryofIran (talk) 20:27, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that is indeed the LTA SheryOfficial. These two however [10] [11], don't seem to be connected to them (different IP geolocations, different conduct/habits compared to SheryOfficial, the user would have also probably been caught in the recent SPIs if they were a sock of SheryOfficial.). HistoryofIran (talk) 20:48, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've filed an SPI [12]. --HistoryofIran (talk) 21:14, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I appreciate this. Now, the reason why I included Abdu Mia and the IP in the examples I gave to you on Shah Ismail Dehlvi is because of how quickly they restored their edits over a portion of time, and the fact that after Abdu Mia’s edit was reverted, an IP came and restored their edit- notice the similarity here to SheryOffical's behavior? If Abdu Mia is not a sockpuppet of Shery, is the IP a sockpuppet of Abdu Mia and can this count as sock puppeteering, especially if Abdu Mia continues this habit in the future? Also, can it be safe to assume that the other recently active IPs such as 39.62.223.58 from here are also SheryOffical? Again, thanks for your efforts. HyperShark244 (talk) 21:42, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and I forgot to mention, Abdu Mia, sock puppeteer or not, appears to be a WP:SPA who is WP:NOTHERE to improve Wikipedia, all they do is remove large amounts of sourced content and add unverified content based on their own whims in a single article repetitively. HyperShark244 (talk) 21:59, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seems highly likely that Abdu Mia and the IP are the same person. WP:SOCKPUPPETRY is more like editing through another user account/IP in secret. They didn't seem try to do it in secret, I don't even think they know that its important they stick to their user account. So far they're indeed showing WP:SPA-like behaviour, but they have very few edits right now (and no warnings on their talk page either, I would advise enabling WP:TWINK, so you can easily give autogenerated warnings), so it's not worth to do anything about it right now, as action likely won't be taken. HistoryofIran (talk) 23:26, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And yeah, 39.62.223.58 is definitely SheryOfficial. I've updated my SPI to include that as well. HistoryofIran (talk) 23:31, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Disruption at Barelvi movement, LTA came back. HyperShark244 (talk) 08:04, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What disruption are you on about? You're adding baseless information to an encyclopedia and reverting me without any reasonable evidence? 39.62.223.58 (talk) 08:13, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
