This seminar provides an introduction to Extractivism in Latin America. It focuses on building a systemic perspective of extractive industries (fossil fuels, mining, industrial agriculture, fishing) and their environmental, social, and economic impacts. The course uses texts (book chapters, primary and grey literature) and video documentaries to explore the historical context for the exploitation of natural resources in this region and their modern-day connections with the lives of their consumers.

Throughout the quarter students will use wikiedu to practice delving deeper into ONE resource of their choice in ONE country or region. In this assignment students will practice: 1) finding reading scientific literature, 2) annotating scientific literature, 3) write about the topic with full citations with a public audience in mind.
