Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on November 5, 2007.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that businessman Peter Bynoe oversaw the development of New Comiskey Park, which was instrumental in keeping the Chicago White Sox from leaving the city?
Current status: Good article

Structure

[edit]

Now that I read that he supervised the building of the New Cosminsky Park, I think that that info should be in the lead. Some of the details of his dealings with the Nuggets should be moved out of the lead. I just threw that text together yesterday to expand the article a bit, and am not wedded to any of my edits. I cannot figure out the intricacies of these business deals, and am not sure what is really true, so I am going to abstain from further substantive edits to this article. I will take this into account. Can you get me the sources you used for the fact tags though?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 22:33, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was on various places on answers.com, which is supposed to be a bad source as it is also a wiki, even a wikipedia mirror sometimes. Speciate 22:45, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Same person?

[edit]

Is this by the article subject?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 22:33, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely, seems that Bynoe is a common name in Barbados. Speciate 22:42, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Failed

[edit]

the article is not upto the mark. lead needs to be expanded as per WP:LEAD. honors section needs to be clubbed. infobox is incomplete. there are no images. i think first the article should meet the basic requirements. thanks, Sushant gupta (talk) 08:37, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New focus

[edit]

DevorahLeah (talk) 01:34, 1 September 2008 (UTC) Well, I'm gonna do my part to bring it up to GA status. All I ask is that when I'm finished, please fix the footnotes-- I still can't for the life of me figure out how to do them correctly, so I will do them as internal footnotes with a works cited, and then whoever is feeling kind and magnanimous can help me out! Thanks![reply]

Thanks for finding all the good info.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 03:48, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

[edit]

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

This article is in decent shape, but it needs more work before it becomes a Good Article.

  1. Is it well written?
    A. The prose is clear and concise, and the spelling and grammar are correct:
In the Personal Background section, it would be best to mention "Peter Bynoe" first and then mention "Bynoe" instead of having it the other way around.
    B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:
Dates need to be un-liked, per here. In the lead, it would be best to add (NBA) after "National Basketball Association". In the Personal Background section, it would be best to link "Boston Celtics" once, per here. In the Business Career section, it would be best to add (COMSAT) after "Communications Satellite Corporation", I mean I know what it is, but how 'bout the person that reads this article. In the Other Achievements section, why is there a mention of "Mr. Bynoe"?
    Check. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 16:03, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Is it verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check?
    A. It contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline:
    B. Reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose):
    C. It contains no original research:
    D. It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. It addresses the main aspects of the topic:
    B. It stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style):
  4. Is it neutral?
It represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each:
  5. Is it stable?
It does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute:
  6. Is it illustrated, if possible, by images?
    A. Images are tagged with their copyright status, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content:
    B. Images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions:
It would help if an image can be inserted to the article, so it can illustrate the significance of it. But, if an image can't be found, I won't fail the article because of that.
    Check. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 16:03, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
If the statements above can be answered, I will pass the article. Good luck with improving this article!

The Personal Background setion begins "Born in Boston, Massachusetts,[5] Peter Bynoe came from a well-respected family." So I don't know what you want me to do as far as beginning with Bynoe.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 04:03, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
See, the article mentions "Peter Bynoe" in the second paragraph of the section when instead it should mention "Bynoe", since the first paragraph covers his full name. Hope that made sense. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 16:03, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I got it now.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 05:05, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Celtics is linked.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 04:03, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed Mr. Bynoe, COMSAT and NBA.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 04:03, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you to TonyTheTiger for getting the stuff I left at the talk page, because I have gone off and placed the article as GA. Congrats. ;) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 19:29, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
