Ambiguity

[edit]

Crown Princess Mary met Crown Prince Frederik in the Slip Inn, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia during the 2000 Summer Olympics. There were several other European royal princes and princesses there also.

Does the second sentence mean there were several other royals in the Slip Inn, or just in Sydney?--202.154.105.254 22:44, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)
I don't know what the original author meant, but there were other royals in the Slip Inn. [1] indicates that Mary and two friends met Frederik in the Slip Inn. Frederik was with Nikolaos, Prince of Greece, Prince Joaquim of Denmark and Princess Martha of Norway. Thayvian 06:01, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

That pouch

[edit]

User:Mowens35 has explained to me offline the change he put in place about the Prince's remarks about the "kangaroo in the pouch", and I appreciate his scholarship. However, I am not sure that all readers of Wikipedia would know the reproductive cycle of the Kangaroo, hence I have re-introduced the explanation about how the female kangaroo carries a juvenile (called a joey) in a pouch for up to a year." It's actually quite cute that the Prince made this culturally-specific Australian allusion in respect of his wife. Peter Ellis 14:47, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The use of unencyclopedic/unnecessary information

[edit]

I viewed this page toady and was shocked to see someone had added biased and rude comments about Mary as well as changing names for example Frederik to Freddo and Donaldson to Boganson. I found this to be rude as well as very unencyclopedic, so I deleted this information immediately as well as added a section on marriage. If anyone else notices these types of additions please delete them as it not only is unencyclopedic but unnecessary. Thanks

hahahaha.

First Australian-born Queen Consort

[edit]

She may be the first reigning Australian-born Queen Consort, but the honour of the first Australian-born Queen Consort goes to Susan wife of King Lekka of Albania 58.110.229.109 (talk) 05:11, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've added "Danish" to the statement in the lede to distinguish this. -- Tytrox (talk) 08:50, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Susan Cullen-Ward was never legally a queen consort. Keivan.fTalk 18:19, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Her husband, known as King Leka, had been proclaimed King of the Albanians by the anti-communist Albanian government-in-exile in 1961, upon the death of his father King Zog. Meanwhile, Albania itself was a communist republic.

How interesting! I have a feeling this will be debated for decades!
But I think the biggest problems will be of the consorts of these guys: Aboriginal breastplate and we will keep the "Danish prefix" here for the foreseeable future. 2A02:1406:1:23F7:ED26:5781:7A17:4F97 (talk) 19:27, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't mean to only say consorts and "guys" it's pretty obvious from anyone viewing the list of these holders some were queens in their own right. mea culpa. 2A02:1406:1:23F7:ED26:5781:7A17:4F97 (talk) 19:32, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think most people would take this as referring to actual de facto queens consort. Objecting could be an example IMHO of deposed monarchy cruft on Wikipedia. PatGallacher (talk) 22:59, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Susan Cullen-Ward's husband was the heir to a deposed king, but he was never a king himself, so she was no more a actual queen than people like Princess Marie Isabelle of Orléans, Princess Antonia of Luxembourg, Katherine Karađorđević, and Marie-Chantal, Crown Princess of Greece weren't. 2601:249:9301:D570:6570:4E95:2143:38F4 (talk) 00:52, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is this relevant? https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/princess-mary-wasnt-the-first-australian-born-royal-this-is-the-story-of-elsie-thompson/01akcvhax 192.102.239.195 (talk) 23:40, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps should say "first Australian-born queen of a European monarchy" https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/australian-born-mary-makes-history-as-denmarks-new-queen/db8s8ws8b 192.102.239.195 (talk) 23:42, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

She is Queen, not Queen Consort which is written multiple times. 94.189.15.114 (talk) 21:30, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Nthep (talk) 21:32, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are factually wrong. There are 2 types of Queens. 1 is Consort, which applies to Mary, and the other is Regnant, which applied to Margrethe. Consort is the significant other of the monarch, while Regnant IS the monarch. A Queen Consort can be referred to by that title as well as simply "Queen". While Queen Regnant is the technical term for a female monarch, it's just never really used outside of knowledge of terminology, so no one thinks about it. -- Tytrox (talk) 10:58, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong. 92.21.152.213 (talk) 13:19, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
