Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Question from MGToro (14:36, 6 November 2024)

Hello, I am trying to update some of the inaccuracies currently on The Toro Company's page. After reading that it is advised to publish your suggested changes on the page's Talk page first, I did so last week. Is there a different approach that I should be taking in updating the page so there are no inaccuracies? We receive a lot of questions on this page given the content is outdated. Thank you. --MGToro (talk) 14:36, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MGToro: The proposed edit is a direct copy from the Dun and Bradstreet website, which is a copyright violation. Also, you likely have a conflict of interest based on your username, which represents the company whose page you are trying to edit. It is advisable to request a username change on Special:GlobalRenameRequest to avoid a username block. --Leonidlednev (TCL) 16:59, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I read that it is advised to disclose any conflict of interest ahead of time, rather than to try and edit a page when you have an affiliation. Do you suggest otherwise? Also, the proposed change is not a direct copy from Dun and Bradstreet. Can you look again? Thank you. 170.92.1.251 (talk) 20:06, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you can add an {{edit COI}} to the section, add any COIs/paid editing jobs you have on your user page, and review the sources to make sure that the information is the latest. I also think that you got logged out while trying to edit this page. Make sure you log in. --Leonidlednev (TCL) 20:48, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Feedback on Including HISTOLIX Tool as an External Tool and Resource

Hello @Leonidlednev,

I’m currently working on the draft article Draft:Hypertext escape sequences, and I’d like feedback on including the website [HISTOLIX](https://histolix.site) as an external resource source Tool section to my artical. The site provides a tool for encoding HTML escape sequences, which I believe could be useful for readers interested in learning about or working with HTML escape sequences, as it provides a practical, easy-to-use resource.

Before proceeding with any edits, I’d like to know if this link meets Wikipedia’s guidelines for external resources. Is this tool considered appropriate for inclusion, or are there any concerns about its relevance or reliability?

Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your help! Ejazz128 (talk) 13:43, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The website does not meet Wikipedia's external link guidelines, as it would just promote the site you listed. See WP:ELNO #5 for more info. --Leonidlednev (TCL) 14:58, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok Thank you for Your Review Ejazz128 (talk) 16:35, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please review "Draft:Hypertext escape sequences" artical. Following any guidelines of wikipedia it will helpful for me. Ejazz128 (talk) 17:44, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I am not a New Page Reviewer, so I can't review the draft, but I don't think the draft is ready for publication yet. --Leonidlednev (TCL) 17:47, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder to participate in Wikipedia research

Hello,

I recently invited you to take a survey about administration on Wikipedia. If you haven’t yet had a chance, there is still time to participate– we’d truly appreciate your feedback. The survey is anonymous and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement.

Take the survey here.

Kind Regards,

Question from Julian in LA (19:26, 17 November 2024)

I just edited a page called "Sarfus", but the title should be changed to "Surface-enhanced ellipsometric contrast microscopy." How can I do that?

Also, how can I save a draft?

Thanks. --Julian in LA (talk) 19:26, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Julian in LA:
  1. You should not move Sarfus to "Surface-enhanced ellipsometric contrast microscopy", as it would go against WP:COMMONNAME and be too long to type.
  2. To save a draft, create a page in your userspace (User:Julian in LA/*) or draftspace (Draft:*).
--Leonidlednev (TCL) 22:51, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My concern is that Sarfus is a tradename and makes this entry look like a sales brochure. How about "SEEC microscopy"? Here are some statements that I found in my web search:
wet-surface enhanced ellipsometry contrast (Wet-SEEC)
Surface enhanced ellipsometric contrast (SEEC) basic theory and λ/4 multilayered solutions
We have applied surface-enhanced ellipsometry contrast (SEEC) imaging for time-resolved label-free visualization of biomolecular recognition events Julian in LA (talk) 00:16, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Julian in LA: If you really want to move a page, consider following the instructions on WP:MV, specifically #Before moving a page and #How to move a page. --Leonidlednev (TCL) 00:30, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trademarks, which seems to say that an article about a commercial product is acceptable.  Then, I did another web search and found the following.  Is this an article about a mapping station or about a microscopy technique?
"Nanolane is offering its latest generation of Sarfus Mapping stations for label-free, real-time nanoscale life sciences imaging." Julian in LA (talk) 18:50, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Julian in LA: You can start a draft about the company and submit it for review. If the draft passes WP:GNG, WP:CORP, and WP:V, then it will be published. --Leonidlednev (TCL) 18:54, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The original idea was to edit an article called "Sarfus." I don't want to create a new page. Should I edit the existing article to make it a description of the Sarfus Mapping Station, or should I change the title to make it an article about SEEC microscopy? Julian in LA (talk) 19:09, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Julian in LA: You can add the info to the article as long as it's reliably sourced and won't sound promotional. See H:REF and WP:ELINK for more information about referencing and external links. --Leonidlednev (TCL) 19:44, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from MIKAH0912 (12:26, 20 November 2024)

Dear Mentor ,

I hope this message finds you well. i want to ask you on some advice to make my article neutral, because i wrote an article about a start-up profile, as a way to navigate the way through the company's existensial profile, but it seemed like an advertising methode. so i want to ask you how long for a start up or a company should be in the market for it to be eligable for a wikipedia page consideration. and thank you.

Warm regards, MICAH --MIKAH0912 (talk) 12:26, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MIKAH0912: Your draft was deleted because it was promotional. Please do not use AI to communicate with others and use your own words instead: you can leave short messages instead of writing email-formatted walls of text. --Leonidlednev (TCL) 16:45, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Jxstin670 (10:28, 24 November 2024)

How can I add new information, publish new content?--Jxstin670 (talk) 10:28, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Amapiano

Amapiano is a South African Localised Genre that has more than enough followers and lovers by it's laid back instrumental sound(s). Jxstin670 (talk) 16:35, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jxstin670: The article about the subject already exists at Amapiano. If you want to add more information about it, be bold and add it yourself, but make sure to back up your addition with a reliable source (see H:REF for help on referencing). --Leonidlednev (TCL) 21:43, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
