Jaboi or Jaboi Volcano (indonesian: Gunung Api Jaboi) is located in Jaboi Village, Sukajaya District , Weh Island, Aceh, about 15 kilometers from Sabang City. This mountain is an active volcano with a height of about 200 meters above sea level (masl).[1] Although still active, this mountain is not in a dangerous status and is one of the leading natural tourist destinations in Sabang.[2]
Etimology
Mount Jaboi, also known locally as "Serbok," is a name that refers to its volcanic nature. The name "Serbok" is used by the local community to describe this volcano, most likely because of its activity that produces steam or gas from its crater. This name reflects the character of an active volcano that emits compounds such as sulfur and carbon dioxide.
The name "Jaboi" itself comes from the name of the village where the mountain is located, namely Jaboi Village in Sukajaya District, Sabang. This village is the main entrance for tourists and climbers who want to explore the mountain. In addition to the official name and local name, Mount Jaboi is also often referred to as "Gunung Api Jaboi," to emphasize its status as an active volcano that is a tourist attraction and geological study in the Weh Island area.
Landscape
Mount Jaboi is known for its unique landscape. The crater area is marked by white rocks and sulfur deposits, creating a barren yet exotic landscape. Dead trees around the crater enhance the visual appeal of this place. Climbers are advised to bring masks because the smell of volcanic gases such as sulfur and CO2 is quite pungent. In addition, there is a hot spring with sulfur and other minerals that are said to have health benefits, such as curing skin irritation.[3][4][5]
