S. Amin Tabish is an Indian medical scientist,[1][2][3] physician, author,[4][5][6] poet, holding a Royal College of Physicians (London),[7] American College of Physicians[8] and New York Academy of Sciences Fellowships and a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bristol. Tabish has worked on University Planning, Medical Education, Scientific Research, and Healthcare Administration.[9] He has published over 500 scientific research papers and authored sixteen books. Tabish has been Editor for more than a dozen medical journals and won 60 awards for his contributions to healthcare, higher education, and scientific research.[10][11]
Early life and education
Born at Pattan in northern district of Kashmir Baramulla on March 30, 1957, and presently living in Sanat Nagar Srinagar Kashmir. Syed Amin Tabish obtained qualifications of MBBS, FRCP from London, FACP, FAMS FRCP (Edin), MD HA (AIIMS), FRIPH (England), FIMSA, MHSM (London) and Doctorate in Educational Leadership (USA). He is a fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences since 2003.[12]
Career
Tabish has led the design and implementation of programs at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar and Qassim University in Saudi Arabia. The training covers a spectrum, from scientific research and recent advances to future trends in medical sciences, Evidence-based medicine, evidence-based healthcare (EBHC), Total quality management / continuous quality improvement (TQM/CQI), advanced techniques in specialized patient care, emerging perspectives in healthcare, traumatic brain injury, lifestyle diseases, and emerging infectious diseases. His expertise extends to medical education, Problem-based learning (PBL), quality improvement in higher academic institutions.[13]
Dr. Tabish has also represented India at the World Health Forum at Dallas Texas during 22-27 February 1998. This international event was organized by The Health Industry Council and the International Hospital Federation, to discuss the Emerging Infectious Diseases. Selection of the participants was based on national stature, academic contribution, and international recognition. At that time different countries were asked to nominate the medical scientists they had in the specified fields to gather and examine the issues related to their healthcare system. The recommendations of the global meeting of scientists formed the basis for designing the policy and planning for the emergency preparedness and long-term health facility development to tackle the challenges of emerging epidemics and pandemic.[14][15][16]
Moreover S. Amin Tabish is a poet who has written a number of poems in English, Urdu and Kashmiri. Four Music CDs based on his lyrics - Doad te Dugg, Ake Omri Hound Souruye Safar, Sakoon Diluk, Mioth Zaher containing over 70 songs are released. The lyrics have been composed and sung by noted singers and artists of Jammu & Kashmir[17][18]
Social Sciences & Literature
Dr. Tabish has contributed to English, Urdu and Kashmiri literature for over four decades. He has more than 300 literary publications. He has been the youngest author when he authored his first book " Hussaini Karvanuk Safar" (History of Karbala) which was subsequently included in the Curricula of Masters in Kashmiri language.
At the age of 24, Dr. Tabish served as Secretary General of Kashmir Cultural Organization (Representative Body of Writers, Poets, Artists & Intellectuals) during 1982-1987 and was the Editor of Koshur Akhbar (first weekly Kashmiri Newspaper in India).[19]
Healthcare
Dr. Tabish worked as Head of Accident & Emergency Services at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar from 1997 to 2010 and held office of its Chairman from 2010 - 2012. He established a 100 bedded Emergency Department with the unique "Level System", which is first of its kind in the World. Amin Tabish also established a world class Disaster Management Program with a concept of a separate Disaster Management Ward at SKIMS, Srinagar. As Medical Superintendent and Head of Hospital Administration he introduced facilities like Total Quality Management, Hospital Infection Control, Stoma Care.[19]
During 2000-2005, Tabish introduced some essential training programs for doctors and nurses at SKIMS, Srinagar including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) to further strengthen Emergency and critical Care Services in the hospital.
Medical Education & Scientific Research
Dr. Tabish organized various conferences (National, International, Regional, State level) at SKIMS, AIIMS New Delhi, Saudi Arabia. He delivered lectures on diverse issues in Health and Medical Education in the United Kingdom, Middle East, India and the USA. He chaired several Scientific sessions in various international conferences. He has published scientific research focused on Traumatic Brain Injury, Lifestyle Diseases, Emerging Infectious Diseases, Pandemics and Epidemics, Health Policy & Planning, Recent Trends in Medical Education.[19]
Academics
Tabish has been a Medical Council of India Inspector/Assessor during 2010 -2020. He has been on the panel of Experts for the Selection of Faculty at AIIMS New Delhi, SGPGI Lucknow and Qassim University.
He has also been a Visiting Professor of premier Universities of Saudi Arabia. He has been External Examiner of some top Universities of India Like AIIMS New Delhi, Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, National Board of Examinations (India). [19]
Tabish has contributed chapters to Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education syllabus for 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th classes. [20][21]
Accomplishments
He achieved the status of a fellow at the International Medical Sciences Academy in India in 1998, followed by becoming a fellow at the National Academy of Medical Sciences in New Delhi in 2003 and American College of Physicians (USA) in 2006. He was awarded fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in London (2002), as well as at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (2004). Tabish is the Founder Editor in Chief of International Journal of Health Sciences, Qassim University, Saudi Arabia: January 2007- December 2009[22] [2]

Sahitya Akademi New Delhi honoured Dr. Syed Amin Tabish by inviting him for a daylong function held at MET Srinagar on 19 November 2024, as a writer, poet, author and researcher. His book Sormali Shaam (Dusky Evening) - collection of poems, was released on the occasion[34]
