Hyman Rubin Sr. was a mayor, state legislator, and businessman??? lawyer??? in South Carolina. His son or grandson a historian? He served as a state senator in South Carolina. Columbia, South Carolina.

He was Jewish.[1] His father Isadore Rubin was a refugee immigrant from Russia. [2]

He advocated to protect the Congaree Swamp from logging and against segregation. He helped organize a lunch club in Columbia where black and white leaders met.[3]
