Unintended Reactions During Synthesis

It says in the previous step to have an excess of nitric acid. However, some concentrations of nitric acid react with alcohols. What concentrations of nitric are safe with which alcohols? What concentrations are unsafe? How are they unsafe?

What are some inorganics incompatible with aluminum nitrate? I assume methanol and butanol are compatible but what about other alcohols or functional groups?

Thanks for any help in advance. 146.6.145.8 21:10, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Man Who Doesn't Want to Explode[reply]

Synthesis doesn't work

mixing those alcohols in that wt% doesn't do what that paragraphs says. I will dilete that paragraph in few days to a week unless convinced otherwise.
