Samuel William Davies is an international high jumper who has represented Wales, and is an aspiring GB athlete[1]. He first represented the Welsh senior athletics team in 2023, when partaking at Loughborough International 2023 [2]. At the competition he was the 2nd youngest participant, at 17 years of age[1]. He is currently ranked #556 in the world for men's high jump[3]

The first time representing his country he was "really, really nervous." He stated how "putting on the Welsh vest for the first time, whilst [he] felt really rewarded for the work he put in, [he] felt really nervous competing against the best in the UK." [1]

Achievements

As of December 2024, Samuel Davies currently has a personal best of 2.08m[4], which was achieved when he won the Home Nations U20[5]. He achieved a prior Personal Best of 2.04 at the Bedford International Games 25th of May 2024. His prior PB of 2.01m was achieved in Sheffield at the English U20 Championships in February 2024[4], which he stated as the best moment of his career by that point[1]. Furthermore, he became U20 Welsh Champion with a 1.97m jump on Jan. 29 2023, as well as winning a silver medal at the U20 International at Cardiff Aug 26, 2023[4].

Education

During his A levels in Wales, he utilised his A level PE to analyse his own biomechanics and performances, as well as doing fitness testing as a way of improving his performance during his coursework.[1]

In September 2024, Samuel began his B.Sc studying Biological Sciences at Loughborough University, after failing to come into the competitive Sport & Exercise Science course at Loughborough, ranked number 1 sports university in the world[6].
