James Burke edit

[edit]

Reverting of my James Burke amendment - the story of Burke copying his classmate is true! I am the son of the classmate! So I heard it straight from the horse's mouth, why is it reverted? Dirk Wickenden (talk) 13:36, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You failed to provide a reliable source. Canterbury Tail talk 13:39, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am the reliable source? Dirk Wickenden (talk) 14:31, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No you are not, and neither is your parent. Fails Wp:RS. Canterbury Tail talk 14:32, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have been given all the information you need on your talk page. By continuing to claim that you either do not know what you are doing, do not understand, and continue to argue with well established editors, you are causing a disruption to Wikipedia. If you choose to be, as you say a martyr, we are not stopping you. You can choose not to edit Wikipedia, or you can choose to review what has been shared with you learn from it and start anew following the guidelines established.--VVikingTalkEdits 14:36, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Viewmont Viking, that is a harsh response to a very new editor. Don't be bitey, established editors should instruct editors unfamiliar with Wikipedia's many guidelines, not drive them away from the project so they now have a bad attitude about Wikipedia and its editors. We were all new once. Liz Read! Talk! 00:43, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Liz I appreciate the work you do with Wikipedia. I can see how people could view this edit as harsh/bitey. I am not going to "make excuses" for this edit, only to say that I could have written it differently and in a less bitey way, but I stand by the premise of the message. I will try to be less bitey in the future.--VVikingTalkEdits 13:38, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but you have been reverted by HazzelDazzleDoDah. At no point did I admit to anything being incorrect. That is just wrong. Sorry. We are slogging it out on the user's talk page. Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 15:08, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That's not what I said is it? I said you didn't know it to be correct, which is what you did say... HazzelDazzleDoDah (talk) 15:27, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be real, at this point the stupid I'm having to deal with from numerous angles is getting tiring and I have far more important things to do. Enjoy the rest of your day. HazzelDazzleDoDah (talk) 15:28, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What does this add ?

[edit]

It adds that you can hear the person talk, argue, and explain. It adds to the profile by delineating the career and specific scholarly approach of the scholar. Just like the entry on German philosopher Jürgen Habermas has links to two youtube interviews he gave; or the one on French sociologist and philosopher Michael Foucault has a link to the Foucault Audio Archive of the University of California, Berkeley. I could continue this ad libitum. Psychedilly Circus (talk) 18:49, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Little help

[edit]

Hey. Being as that you know what is going on. Can you help me out with editing? I know you sent links. What I had changed was revenue and other financials from 2019 to 2024 numbers and citing Bloomberg and Yahoo. I'm not sure how that is promotional. The Awards changes were also making updates to what was there and I put cites to the pubs. Maybe its because I'm doing the edits a little bit at a time? Any advice would be appreciated as I'm new here and learning. Thanks, Mike Mike.dill01 (talk) 21:44, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First off do you have a COI? If you do my advice would be the same as what @WikiDan61: said on his talk page to make edit requests at Talk:Ryder instead of editing the article directly. If you cannot see how your edits could be construed as promotional there really isn't much, I feel I can do to help you. Saying all you did was update the revenue and other financials, then removing whole cited paragraphs that could be considered negative about the organization seems very disingenuous.--VVikingTalkEdits 21:54, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
While I do not have a COI, maybe that is the easiest route. What I removed was errant in that Ryder does not operate in UK. But I get it. Thanks for your time and help. Mike.dill01 (talk) 22:01, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

Hi Viewmont, our contribution has been undone because they appeared to be promotional. (Sledding) We provided independent information from public media and a public Ski Resort page about a new sports oportunity for an alpine experiene on slopes for all with a new carving bob catagory. This is an independant and saisonal relevant infirmation for the public. Please advice, how to contrivute innovation, where the market did not offer alternatives yet. Many thanks and best wishes. About Bilibili

[edit]

Hello.

I have a question about your edit on the Bilibili page. Your reason for remove my edit was ‘Unsourced, promotional, poorly sourced’. In accordance with WP:RS and WP:DEPS, I am confident that Xinmin Weekly and Xinhua News can serve as reliable sources on this topic, and as this entry has already described the criticisms related to Bilibili, and in the interest of providing readers with comprehensive information for a better understanding, I thought it would be appropriate to also provide information on Bilibili's contribution to society. The comments on Bilibili in the content (or perhaps what you consider to be alleged promotion) come from the referenced sources. Also, I edited the content with reference to the Chinese Wikipedia, and attached the link here for your information.

In addition, I am new to the English Wikipedia so may not be very familiar with them, so if you find a problem with what I say, please let me know and attach the relevant guidelines and relevant community discussions so that I can understand them, thank you.

Sincerely, Iming (talk) 14:10, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To You

[edit]

Viewmont Viking. This is a formal warning from sir Jeremiah von Schubert of Concord, New Hampshire. I understand you find my advances on such topics as the name Jeremiah and boating books to be a threat to this platform's honor and integrity. However, you must eventually confide that my existence is true, and my purpose is strong. Life has been a long track of baseless accusations against the von Schubert name, shrouding my legacy in a veil of fiction. I have been beaten down black and blue, tickled pink, all of the colors. My life is an unfinished symphony that I need support when telling. Wikipedia is my only place to do so. I come, I edit, I conquer. Stay down, you Norwegian fool. On September 27, 2024, the following projects were removed from Disney+, legally making them lost media by legal means (that is just what the term is). I was adding mention of this with reference, not vandalising. NY peanut (talk) 13:47, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Attesting References

[edit]
  • Betti, Tony (September 27, 2024). "Disney Channel Series, Original Films, and National Geographic Programs Among Growing List of Content Removed From Disney+". Laughing Place. Retrieved September 27, 2024. The removals mean that many titles are no longer viewable by any (legal) means.
  • Palmer, Roger (September 29, 2024). "Disney+ Removes Multiple Originals Including "Togo" & "A Small Light"". What's On Disney Plus. Retrieved September 29, 2024.

No where in the reference does it state it is lost media, and "legal means" should not be linked to internet piracy. By claiming it is lost media when it is not referenced as such is not accurate. Viewmont Viking (talk) 13:55, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't invent the term "lost media by legal means", that is just what this action is called, when a work is removed from streaming services and is no longer legally accessible. But I see where you were confused: something being "lost media" and "lost media by legal means" are two entirely different things, one where the work is actually unavailable in general, and the other where the work is legally unavailable/only accessible via piracy. Regardless I will alter the wording to just quote the article, and switch out the secondary reference to the primary reference from Laughing Place, which directly mentions how the works are no longer viewable by legal means. Retirement Contemplation

[edit]

Hi VViking. I need some help on an incredibly hard decision. I've been depressed and not feeling any joy in editing anymore. I've been contemplating retiring, but I don't know if this is an extreme response to this. I've felt like people dislike me, and I've become really demotivated. Most of my edits have been on my userpage, which makes me think that I'm not useful here. Is this too extreme of a decision?

Vladislav Doronin edits

[edit]

Hello, Viewmont Viking. I am a COI editor for Vladislav Doronin seeking help to make some modifications to his Wiki entry. I have detailed my current request and suggestions on the Talk page and feel that other editors have not reviewed completely or fairly. In the past, you've edited pages related to Doronin's businesses. Perhaps you would be willing to help me with this? Thank you in advance, Astraea2024 (talk) 13:51, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging user sandboxes for deletion

[edit]

Hi there, can you please stop tagging user sandboxes for deletion in all but the most egregious of spam cases? It's supposed to be a place where editors can mess around. Let them mess around - don't WP:BITE. -- asilvering (talk) 20:51, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A non-contributor's misuse of Wikipedia as a web host "Pages in userspace consisting of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals, where the owner has made few or no edits outside of user pages, except for plausible drafts and pages adhering to Wikipedia:User pages § What may I have in my user pages? It applies regardless of the age of the page in question." I don't see it as biting. I ask that you stop removing speedy deletion templates from pages that clearly violate WP:NOTWEBHOST Thank you. --VVikingTalkEdits 21:31, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mirza

[edit]

I added two names to the list of individuals who carry the Mirza title but you removed it. Please let me know why? Hammadbaigwiki (talk) 01:04, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Because the individual is not notable according to WP policy. They should have an article already created about them. In addition you have been adding external links in the body of the article.--VVikingTalkEdits 15:24, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have created this account and will use this as the previous one was having problems when I was trying to edit (or may be I failed to understand how this whole thing worked). Please respond to this ID only as I would not be using that.
The two individuals that I included in the list are prominent Mirza Baigs. Not every prominent person has to have a wikipage. I subsequently removed all external links.
I note that you have removed the two names again. Can you please restore them without the external links or any other offending material.
Thank you. LevelPlayingFieldForAll (talk) 16:15, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Viewmont Viking -- I have just declined this one as I think there is a weak claim in operating centres nationally, sufficient to meet A7. I also feel that A7 is not, in general, the best route for established articles where there is an implied acceptance from multiple editors who have contributed over the years. I wouldn't object to a proposed deletion in this case. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 14:15, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:30, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Solder Mask page

[edit]

Dear Viewmont Viking,

Would it be possible to agree that Wikipedia should tell about all present technologies for coating solder mask? I cannot easily find a reference which is not "commercial". So I picked the one (mine) in which the description is not strongly promotional. I can pick another one, as long as the same principle (no promotion) is applied.

What do you think? LGautero (talk) 15:42, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Greenwich Leisure Limited

[edit]

Hello Viewmont Viking

Could you help me understand more about your reasons for undoing the changes I had made to this page please? Your comments were 'COI promotional, poorly sourced'.

Regarding the COI, I had read the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest guidelines and, although it says that COI editing is 'strongly discouraged', it doesn't say that you can't do it. I have stated my COI on my user page to be transparent (User:Leemann72). I have tried to write the copy as directed in the Wikipedia guidance: 'an encyclopedic style with a formal tone is important: straightforward, just-the-facts, instead of essay-like, argumentative, or opinionated.' I would be grateful if you could let me know where my edits strayed from this direction to be 'promotional'.

Regarding the 'poorly sourced' aspect, I had included links to what I considered to be reputable sources such as The Guardian, Camden and Reading local government websites, as well as the UK financial regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority. I would be grateful if you could let me know why these sources are not considered to be reputable.

I look forward to your guidance.

Mankato west reversion

[edit]

Your reason for removing the fight song was "WP is not a webhost." This reason is completely irrelevant and you have no sufficient reason for removing the song. If you revert or change something, you need sufficient reason. OllieBowen28 (talk) 16:26, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mankato west reversion discussion

[edit]

I replied to your comment on my talk page, and didn't see a reply, so I'm reposting my responses here:

I'm sorry, but my edit of adding the Mankato West High School fight song was not vandalism in any way. In fact, the article you linked for me to read about vandalism states that removing a perfectly fine contribution could be considered vandalism. You still have yet to provide a relevant reason for removing the edit. "WP is not a webhost" is simply not a legitimate reason. Please either provide a sufficient reason or add the fight song back. I understand you are just trying to help a new user, but I don't appreciate my contributions being reverted for no reason.

I also see that you have linked an article next to your repetition of "WP is not a webhost." The article linked was completely unrelated to your statement, which was nonsensical already. I read through the article, and I'm guessing that you are seeing my edit as a "Bold edit," and have reverted it. Then, we are supposed to begin a discussion of the revision. So, here is my POV on why my edit should be a part of Wikipedia:

I am a student at Mankato West High School. Recently, I have restored an old contribution by a fellow student. This contribution was the school's fight song. I believe that this is an important part of our school's culture and pride, and should be shown in the school's Wikipedia Page.

According to both articles you linked, the ones on vandalism and accepted contributions, my edit was not against any policies like you claimed. If you have a policy in mind, please share it and how my contribution goes against it. Also please explain what "WP is not a webhost" means.
