Apify is a web scraping platform for extracting data from websites and automating workflows a human would otherwise complete manually in an internet browser. It has over 3,000 serverless cloud programs[3] called Actors that carry out specific functions, such as a Google Trends scraper[4] and website content crawler.[5]

History

Apify (originally named Apifier) began as a project in 2015 when its founders Jan Čurn and Jakub Balada participated in the first batch of the Y Combinator Fellowship program.[6] The company was incorporated as Apifier s.r.o. on February 15, 2016.[7] The company changed its name to Apify in October 2017.[8] In its early years, the company received a $12,000 grant from the Y Combinator Fellowship on October 20, 2015,[9] followed by $500,000 in funding from INCOMMING Ventures and Reflex Capital over the next four years.[10] In 2024, Apify received €2.8 million in funding from J&T Ventures and others.[11] In 2021, Apify ranked 14th in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Central Europe 2021.[12] In 2023, Apify was ranked as the 187th fastest-growing European company in the Financial Times ranking.[13]
