⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Crotta House drawn by John Preston Neale.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

[edit]

Hello, Dm4244. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I took the time to explain every edit I made to the Niall Harrington article. Can you please explain why you reverted all the manual of style cleanup I did? Also, you have the text all messed up, there's new paragraphs being started in the middle of sentences. That's all I was doing, putting the broken text together on the same line. Just because you created an article doesn't mean that other editors are not allowed to edit it, these are all common cleanup edits. It's not like I was removing anything, just fixing the text. Cmr08 (talk) 17:07, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies to you, Cmr08. This is the first *completely* new page I've done - and as it's so new I neglected to check if others had made changes and simply pasted my corrected version. It won't happen again, especially as I have another to upload soon. Dm4244 (talk) 22:21, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Cmr08: This messaging on my talk page is new to me too. Dm4244 (talk) 22:55, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No problem then, mistakes happen, especially if it's your first article. If you were re-pasting the same version, that's how all the text was messed up again, but I think I have fixed most of it. Anything I can do for you, just let me know on my talk page. Cmr08 (talk) 00:01, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Magnus Pyke. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Re: Help concerning Category pages

[edit]

Hi Dm4244, I'm kind of confused as to what you're asking. Are you talking about adding categories to the article Gortclohy, County Kerry or are you referring to adding categories to the image? If you mean the image page, I've never been involved in anything to do with uploading images or the Commons, so I don't think I would be of much help as I have no idea what goes on there. The best thing you can probably do is check out Commons:Help Desk, I'm sure someone there would be able to help.

However, if you are referring to the article page itself, there is a category titled "Townlands of County Kerry", so that should be added to the article. I can do that right now for you now. Cmr08 (talk) 01:27, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Cmr08: Thank you. I will follow up your suggestion about the Help Desk as the Uploading Wizard isn't 'seeing' the category mentioned.Dm4244 (talk) 18:03, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This should read less like a eulogy. Avoid anecdotes and trivia from friends and colleagues, and subjective fluff like "much-loved, supportive, inspirational to generations of students...". @Cwmhiraeth: Thank you for the comment. The alert icon at the top of the page was red, so I assumed something was wrong. Also your message stated that it had been generated using the Page Curation tool on your behalf, which is a first for me. Is this all normal? Dm4244 (talk) 17:16, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
All new pages are curated sooner or later by people like me. The reviewer can just give the article a tick of acceptance or they can, if they wish, send a message to the creator through the page curation tool, and I use this facility when I specially like an article. So, congratulations, keep up the good work! Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:11, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Cwmhiraeth: Allow me to return the compliment, then. I see you also have a focus on putting scientific things on the map, so to speak, and also in South Wales.

Speedy deletion nomination of Alexander O'Donovan Shiel

Hello Dm4244,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Alexander O'Donovan Shiel for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

Information icon Hi Dm4244! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Irish Civil War that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Kj cheetham (talk) 17:55, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information. If only the words 'stub' and 'notability' had more specific definitions. Dm4244 (talk) 10:18, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
WP:STUB and WP:NOTABILITY may be of interest. For notability, WP:GNG is the core of it to me, unless a subject-specific guideline (WP:SNG) overrules it, and assuming WP:NOT doesn't come into play. I tend to tag things based on experience rather than purely the guidelines though, as some parts may be open to interpretation. WP:ASSESS may also be of interest for stubs, though individual WikiProejcts may have their own criteria too. Hope that helps! -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:35, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

I just want to say a quick thankyou for your work in creating the articles Cyril Daly and Paddy Randles, which I encountered at the tail end of a long run of categorising Irish medical doctors.

Both article are well-written: solid prose, with good sourcing, and neutral. They give a good overview of the two mens' work and campaigns. I took a quick look at some of your other creation, which seems to be of a similarly high standard, but those two stand out for me because of the subject matter. I am old enough to have left school before the ban on beatings, and I saw some horrible stuff, so I cheered Daly's campaigning.

So thank you again. That's important work you have done. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:19, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Edward Butler (Irish republican)

[edit]

Hello, Dm4244,

Thank you for creating Edward Butler (Irish republican).

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Hello! After reviewing this article, I am somewhat concerned that it doesn't meet WP:GNG. From the article's reference, it's not clear that Butler is notable separately from the Balcombe Street Gang, which already has an article. Generally speaking, just being a member of a notable group does not confer notability without WP:SIGCOV of the person in an individual capacity. I hope you're able to find more coverage of Butler!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|ThadeusOfNazereth}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
