McKinleyville is located at 40°56'51" North, 124°6'9" West (40.947392, -124.102547)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 59.1 km² (22.8 mi²). 54.1 km² (20.9 mi²) of it is land and 5.0 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.42% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 13,599 people, 5,277 households, and 3,604 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 251.5/km² (651.4/mi²). There are 5,494 housing units at an average density of 101.6/km² (263.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 87.64% White, 0.38% Black or African American, 4.56% Native American, 1.07% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 1.66% from other races, and 4.63% from two or more races. 4.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,277 households out of which 34.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.9% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% are non-families. 21.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.01.
