There is a big maratha community living in this village. The majority of which are Shinde's.This villaage and surrounding some 4-5 villages are traditionally being controlled by Shinde's.These include Ambheri, Jamb, Khatav and Kanherkhed. Vilage Kanherkhed situated on the West. The Great Maratha Sardar Ranoji Shinde hailed from this village. He founded the earstwhile Gwalior empire which was then expanded by his able son Maharaja Mahadjee Shinde (Scindia)

Shindepn 08:26, 15 May 2007 (UTC) About Jakhangaon - It's not that famous and no evidence to prove any historical existance. But the real history in most of the cases remians unfold. All these Shinde's have a common lineage god; which is [ Jotiba ] at Wadi Ratnagiri in [ Kolhapur ] Distirct. Even there is office of Scindia Devasthan Trust who manages the activities of the temple. One can check names like Ambheri, Kanherkhed, Unchithane, Jakhangaon in the BSNL online directory to confirm this. Shindepn 08:26, 15 May 2007 (UTC) You can find some information about Kanherkhed in the history books ( e.g. Panipat - an award wining Marathi novel by Prof. Vishwas Patil and many other marathi and english historical literatures). Even on of the school houses is named as "Kanherkhed" at Scindia School, Gwalior. Please visit [www.scindia.edu/]. One can visit the village and see the ruins of the ancestral residence of Maharaja Ranojee Shinde; father of Maharaja Mahadjee Shinde and four of his brothers who lost their lives at wars in Panipat and Delhi. This palce was vised by former MP of Gwalior Late Maharaja Madhavarao Shinde once and his sister and CM of State of Rajasthan Ms. Vasundhararaje Shinde. Other facts one have to check through local news papers and visiting these places. If I could find few of the net resources I'll late know about those.
