Coming Undone - Korn

Does anyone know who wrote the song "Coming Undone by "Korn"? I think Jon Davis might have wrote that one but im not too sure. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 60.241.116.170 (talk) 06:48, 9 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

question about movies

hey i have a question about movies. i would like to know why every movie comes out on dvd.

There are many movies that have not (and will not) come out on DVD. For example, try and find the "Howie Mandel: Live at Carnegie Mall" movie on DVD. --Kainaw (talk) 13:52, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From what I've read, companies make a lot of money selling movies on DVD. That is always a good reason. Recury 16:14, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I hope I've gone to the right part of the Reference Desk. I'm looking for a skateboarding-themed desktop background. I've already Googled and Google Imaged the relevant terms, but none of the results on the first page (or beyond that, in some cases) have anything that truly satisfies me. What I had in mind was a skateboarder (it doesn't matter who) doing some cool trick in the middle of the air, preferably decked out in vivid athletic gear—it should be chromatically aesthetic, after all. Is anyone familiar with such a picture, or can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks, anon. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 162.84.190.76 (talk) 21:23, 9 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Pleas for aid

Since 95% of Greenburg, Kansas has been wiped out by a tornado, why hasn't there been any televised marathons asking viewers for donations, with the funds going to the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity? Those types of things were done in the aftermaths of 9/11, the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, and Hurricane Katrina. There also hasn't been any televised marathons asking for donations, with the funds going to the above charities and to UNICEF and Save the Children, in the aftermath of the 2007 Solomon Islands earthquake. Shouldn't anything be done? -- 72.229.130.76 18:21, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Movie Star addition

Hi: My Mom was an RKO Film child star, much like Shirley Temple (same time and type). I wanted to start a page for her and I did, however I am not sure how to get it to look like, say: Shirly Temple's Wikipedia Page? She has a place for bio, filmography, date of birth section and such. I only have a blank page full of her info which I saved and that's just the way it looks. Can you help me? I'd really appreciate it very much. Take care, Piress 21:55, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You might to take a look at Wikipedia:How to edit a page regarding wiki markup. Pax:Vobiscum 22:15, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What's the article called? Or edit (without saving) the Shirley Temple article to see how it's set up. Clarityfiend 01:09, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Surely you can copy Shirley. On Shirley's page, pick "edit this page", use Control A to select all, then Control X to cut, but don't save. Then go to your new article, and do a Control V to paste. Then it's just a matter of changing everything to make a Shirley-free version. StuRat 02:44, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Art within art

I was wondering if we have a list of named works of "art" within other works. Here are some examples from TV:

TV show "Art within art"
=========================  ================================================
Too Close for Comfort Cosmic Cow (Ted Knight's comic strip)
Home Improvement Tool Time (Tim's cable TV show)
Sex in the City Sex in the City (Carrie's newspaper column)

Most have different names from the main show, but not all. Also, as you can see, I've struggled to describe this concept, is there a general term for it ? StuRat 04:12, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See Story within a story, Show-within-a-show, List of fictitious films, and links from those. --Anonymous, May 11, 2007, 04:32 (UTC).
Thanks. I guess there's no better term than "art within art" for the general concept. StuRat 04:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd have to add The Simpsons & Itchy and Scratchy to your list. Aaadddaaammm 09:49, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and The Happy Little Elves. We even have a list of fictional characters within The Simpsons. StuRat 00:38, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually there's a word more specific to what you're describing, not story within a story or show within a show or something. Can't remember what I'm thinking of though. [Mac Δαvιs]19:13, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What you're describing is a kind of metafiction. See the article and related linked article for more info. —Mitaphane ?|! 23:50, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gianna Michaels

Has the pornstar Gianna Michaels performed in any anal scenes —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.240.255.84 (talk) 12:03, 11 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

That is a very good question, which our Gianna Michaels article unfortunately does not answer. Looking at ther IMDb page [1] however, I find that she starred in such productions as Ass masterpiece Vol. 4, Interracial Anal Teens -n- Toys 3 and Evil Anal 4. Perhaps one of those films features the scene you are looking for. Skarioffszky 12:41, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Number of manga titles

About how many indigenous manga titles are there in Japan? I'm only looking for a rough estimate as its a very broad and unspecific question. I guess someone must have made some estimate other than an “insane number”, which is about the only answer I have found this far. Kess 13:00, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ever, or currently publishing? —Tamfang 21:48, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ever. Though I'm happy with an estimate for currently publishing as well. Kess 05:03, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think that there's something in Frederik L. Schodt's "Dreamland Japan". I'll check when I get home tonight. Confusing Manifestation 01:51, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, there is no figure in here for the number of manga titles, probably because of the effort required to separate individual manga books (those with a single title, like Naruto) from the manga magazines (such as Shounen Jump). Not to mention the sheer size of the doujinshi market. However, to give you an idea of the figures that might be involved, here are some related ones: In 1996, stores in Japan sold a total of 586.4 billion yen worth of manga, making up 12.9% of all publication sales (ie. books, magazines, etc.), while in terms of volume there were 1.89 billion units of manga sold, making up 28.0% of all publications. In 1995, Comiket had over 60,000 sellers of doujinshi, some of whom would presumably be selling more than one title. In addition there were 265 manga magazines in publication in 1996. Let me know if you want Schodt's sources, or see if you can find an email address for him somewhere on his website to ask your question (if anyone knows, surely he would). Elvis Presley Question

Before Elvis Presley became famous, WCKY played his demo recording of "You're a Heartbreaker". I remember the DJ saying we would be hearing a lot from this new singer in the future. Can I find out what year that was? Nobody believes me. They always say "You mean "Heartbreak Hotel". I have a copy of the demo recording that I purchased from Ebay. I can't speak directly to your question about WCKY, or specifically about a demo recording, but we have an article Elvis Presley's Sun recordings which indicates that the song was recorded in 1954, and this link says that the single was released on 8 January 1955. Sci fi novel

There's a sci-fi novel I read part of a while ago, but I didn't have the time to finish it, so I'd like to find it and start reading it again.

The novel had something to do with a "calling", where people would have to tether themselves down to prevent themselves from wandering off in a certain direction. The only other thing I remember about it is that the cover had some very beautiful artwork, with a field of grass, some sheep, and some sort of structure in the background I think. —Zachary talk 06:16, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

comedic sound effects - maybe here someone will know

moved from Wikipedia:Reference desk/Miscellaneous#comedic sound effects:

Hi everyone, I am trying to find a sound bite of the sound "wa wa waaaaa" (like a Trumpet or something) that is commen in cartoons where there a screw up of some sort, or in bloopers... the origin of this sound will be a nice bonus, thanks for the answeres :) 88.153.139.194 02:19, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's a muted trombone. See Wah-wah. A search for charlie brown teacher wav might get you a sound file (of questionable copyright status). --TotoBaggins 03:27, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that's it. I think what you're referring to comes from Ennio Morricone's soundtrack to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (though Morricone could got it elsewhere, but I don't think so); whenever something surprising happens, the soundtrack goes "Wah wah waaaaa...." You can here a version of it at seconds 12-14 of this video: [2], or try 2:19 at here. Try renting the movie and seeing if that's what you're thinking of - it's worth seeing anyway. :-) zafiroblue05 | Talk 06:38, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's closer. The cartoon effect is always a descending series of theee notes, though. I'm thinking the Three Stooges might have used it, but I'm not sure. The third note is often really warbled, a lot like the signature note in Dragnet. —Steve Summit (talk) 14:24, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
yeah, i am referening to the three notes cartoon version. not to the "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" thingy.... still in all the internet i cant find it... 88.153.139.194 16:50, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Odd, the version now playing in my head has four descending notes. —Tamfang 20:35, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure that sound has a name. Maybe ask at the entertainment desk? It's the "bwah wah wahhhhh" sound that plays when something disappointing happens to one of the characters. I always thought of it as the "blooper sound" but that doesn't register on Google... it is probably a trombone, but I don't know. --24.147.86.187 18:59, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A trumpet or trombone can make the sound equally well, with the trombone being able to go to a lower pitch. See Mute (music) A plunger mute starts closed over the bell of the instrument and as it is removed the WAA sound is made. Flutter-tongueing can create the rough tone described.Edison 19:41, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. I think you are talking about this sound. IrishGuy talk 01:22, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How to I find this song in my head

It's a bluesy song in the sort of Led Zeppelin or White Stripes style. Don't remember anything other than the way it starts, which is with a base line (bass guitar) that goes something like this

G Bflat C, (short pause) E(high) G(octave above first) E

and then repeats again before beginning in with the beat which hits around the following times

G Bflat C, --(pause)-- E G E (pause) G Bflat C, --(pause)-- E G E --------G Bflat C, --(pause)-- E G E (pause) G Bflat C, --(pause)-- E G E
---------------------O------------/--------O-----------/---------------O------------/--------O-------/---------------O-----------/--------O-------------/--------------O------------/--------O

Where the O is a low drum beat and the / is a snare (place under around where they'd appear in the tune.) I can't figure out what the song is. Any help would be much appreciated 70.108.216.222 04:17, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A video stuck in my head

I have a music video playing over and over in my head...... Its this guy that walks down a street. In an alley he finds a balloon (with a womans face on it) and he tries to catch her. He fails because she goes up and down, kind of teasing him. He gives up but she comes down and he takes the string aatched to the balloon. The then go down the street and a bunch of kids see them and one of the little boys shoot at her (tha balloon) she pops and then the guy is left holding the string. Its a very sad song, but also very beautiful.
