Plaza Senayan is a luxury shopping mall in South Jakarta, Indonesia. The mall is only a few minutes by car from the Semanggi area. The mall is well-known among the upmarket community in Jakarta, and offers diverse high-end shops and services such as designer goods and gourmet food. Since its opening in 1996, Plaza Senayan provides a good alternative to Plaza Indonesia, which at that time is the only truly luxury shopping center in Jakarta. However, the appearance of numerous other luxury shopping centers since 2005 have put a strain to Plaza Senayan's popularity. Nevertheless, the plaza still has a huge following of loyal die-hard shoppers, and therefore cementing its name as one of the best and most stylish shopping malls in the country.
As far as youngsters go, this mall is currently one of the most popular spots to see and be seen in Jakarta. This is truly a reflection of Jakarta's mall culture, where hip youngsters and fashionistas alike gather in shopping malls to hang out. The mall is also popular among Jakarta's expatriate community, because of its excellent facilities and proximity towards the city center.
Shops & Facilities
Plaza Senayan is a three-storey shopping mall. On the ground floor it houses various designer boutiques. The second floor is for casual wear, and the third floor is where a foodcourt and restaurants are located. Adjacent to the mall is a five-story parking garage supplying more than 3,500 carpark spaces. While the main purpose is for parking, there are some shops on the ground, fourth and fifth floors. A furniture shop is located on the ground floor of the parking building. The Senayan 21 Cineplex and restaurants are on the fourth floor while a bowling alley is on the third floor.
The cineplex has 7 studios, 6 standard studios and 1 premiere. This cineplex (Senayan 21) is currently under renovation and when it's reopened, it will become Senayan XXI with more studios.
Transportation
Plaza Senayan is just minutes away from the semanggi area. The mall will soon be served by the Jakarta Monorail upon its completion.
Marygold Clock
Another interesting feature of the mall is the Marygold Clock. This is a large musical clock that opens every hour. Made by Seiko, Japan, it consists of 6 golden figures, each playing different instruments of music. These 'musicians' will then serenade the visitors with pleasant, magical melodies. This musical clock is first of its kind in Jakarta.
