The current director, Mr. William Kroupa Jr., has run shows including Fame, Pippin, You Can't Take It With You, Crazy For You, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Haunted Honeymoon, Alice In Wonderland, Graff (written by Mr. Kroupa), Grease, Guys and Dolls, Tribute to America, Oklahoma, Potpourri, West Side Story, and more. Usually, the guild performs a fall play and a spring musical. The shows for next year are not yet determined.
Bethpage High School Performing Arts Center
On January 16, 2007, the new Bethpage High School Performing Arts Center was unveiled. The First Performance was the Winter Concert. Due to work on the auditorium, the guild did not perform its usual fall musical. The auditorium contains its own sound system, waiting room, dressing rooms, and lighting booth. The opening ceremony began with a statement by the Superintendent and Mr. Kroupa along with the Board of Education welcoming the guests to the new auditorium.
Football
Bethpage's varsity football team has won 10 Nassau County and five Long Island Championships since 1984 when the playoffs expanded to four teams.[citation needed] In 1952, Howard C. Vogts created the first team. Vogts' career record is 342-114-10 mark over 53 seasons. One of Bethpage's most notable records was a 60-game home unbeaten streak (59-0-1) between 1989 and 2004. It ended on October 23, 2004 when the Golden Eagles who were led by starting Senior quarterback Peter Houck, lost 27-0 to the Wantagh Warriors, snapping the streak that spanned 15 years at Howie Vogts' Field. Later in the playoffs, the Eagles suffered another loss at the hands of Wantagh, eliminating Bethpage from the playoffs.[citation needed]
In 2006, Bethpage's football team's record was 8-2.[citation needed] The team was the Conference III champion.[citation needed] Trevor Michaelsen holds the record for most PAT's in a career and in also single season.
Kickline
With two National Championship titles under their belts, the "Golden Girls" really know what their doing. In 2006 and 2007, the Bethpage Varsity Kickline won Pom Champions in Florida at the Nationals Competition. They really know how to work hard and dazzle the crowds with amazing and intricate routines. Led by coach and teacher Jeanna Novelli, the girls excel at all 4 categories in which they compete (Kick, Pom, Jazz and Hip Hop). Along with their national title, the Bethpage Golden Girls were Long Island Champs in the Kick Category. Tryouts held in May, and practices begin shortly after school ends. Congratulation Girls on another great season!
