Nick Jr. is a 24 hour childrens channel in Australia set for pre-schoolers. Nick Jr. was a morning segment on Nickelodeon until 2004 when Foxtel Digital arrived and made Nick Jr. into a 24 hour kids channel. The channel is run by XYZnetworks, under license from Viacom, and is available on Foxtel Digital.

History

Before Nick Jr. officially launched as a 24 hour tv channel it was part of Nickelodeon's morning line up which included the shows "Blues Clues", "Bob the Builder" and "Dora the Explorer" as well as others.
On January 21, 2004 Foxtel announced a brand new digital service along with new channel line ups which included Nick Jr. and on 17 March, 2004 Nick Jr. officially launched to be the first 24 hour Australian Kid's channel to play shows suited for pre-schoolers.
Nick Jr. still has a 2 hour time slot on Nickelodeon in the mornings from 8:00am.

Original Programming

Ollie is a show presented by the first Australian Sesame Street Muppet Ollie.

Hi-5 is a show aimed at 2-8 year-olds, which include educational trends such as fun and games, and features music and movement that attract children's attention. Hi-5 aims to cater to a wide range of young children with a wide range of cognitive abilities and learning styles.

Luis, the host, guides us through the cooking process from start to finish, reminding us how to be safe and, above all, to have fun!

The show was developed by The Sesame Workshop, in Sydney and it features the Australian comedy duo The Umbilical Brothers. (Taken from TV for Tots): "Each episode begins as the brothers hand an imaginary remote control to the viewers at home so they can “control” the duo’s physical motion by fast forwarding, rewinding or pausing their movement... Every week, the duo embarks on a journey to explore new worlds as well as everyday destinations like the laundromat, the airport or the movies.

Frank and Buster, the Koala Brothers, are on a mission: to help others whenever and wherever they can. From their isolated homestead in the Australian outback, they fly out on daily patrol in their aeroplane.
