See You on the Other Side is the seventh studio album by Korn and has sold over 2,330,800 copies worldwide. It was released on December 6, 2005, by Virgin Records. It is their first album without long-time guitarist Brian "Head" Welch and the first album since Issues to be certified multi-platinum. The working title was Souvenir of Sadness. The album was first certified gold on January 12, 2006 and subsequent platinum record certification was awarded on March 16, 2006.

With regards to the album's musical direction, Jonathan Davis quoted,

It's funky, it's heavy, it's dark and sometimes, industrial-tinged. Working with so many different people and everything, it's made it out to be a really well-rounded album of a lot of different things. It's definitely Korn, it's definitely groove-oriented. But it's our most experimental album to date. We're very excited. We're all sitting around, when we listen to it, looking at each other going, 'I can't believe that's us.' I think people are really going to dig it.

The album was recorded in Jonathan Davis' home studio which was used for the Take a Look in the Mirror album and Queen of the Damned soundtrack and score.

The first single, "Twisted Transistor", was premiered on 102.1 The Edge, and was released on November 212005.

The album was ranked 2nd in Ultimate Guitar Archive Top 10 albums of 2005 poll (user-based). It is very notable achievement considering the date of its release. [1]

As of January 1, 2006 the album has sold 530,807 copies in US alone in its month of debut. [2]

The album was "officially" leaked onto the Internet one week before it was officially released by MTV.com (for streaming only).

As of January 1 2007, it has sold approximately 1,800,000 total copies worldwide (626,000 copies in US alone)[3] during year 2006 (excluding sales from December, 2005 - the month of its premiere). [4] Total sales excess 2,300,000 copies.

The cover of the album, and entire album art is made by Jonathan Davis' friend , New York surrealist, David Stoupakis, and based on the lyrics from the song "Seen It All".

Critical reception

On average, See You on the Other Side generally received much warmer critical reception than the previous studio album, Take a Look in the Mirror, scoring a Metacritic average of 64[5]. Reviewers appreciated the band's desire to experiment and noted that the album combined well their signature sound with the freshness that producers The Matrix and Atticus Ross added to the band's sound.[6] Commercially, the album was successful, proving that Korn can still remain on the top of the charts, staying in Billboard Top 100 pop albums chart for 34 straight weeks.[7]

It should be noted that the discography on band's official site lists different names for some of the tracks. On the page, "Politics" is spelled "Politix", "Souvenir" is called "Souvenir of Sadness", "10 or a 2-Way" is just called "2-Way", and "Seen It All" is written as "Interlude #3/I've Seen It All". It is unknown whether or not these were meant to be the actual titles of the songs, since the list above is the same as the list on the released album.

Along with that, later prints of the album had the song "Twisted Transistor" at a length of 3:08.

Miscellanea

The band wrote most of this album and employed the songwriting team known as "The Matrix" to help refine the sound of the album, giving them a more radio friendly sound in the process.

The band actually went through many producers during pre-production before deciding on The Matrix and Atticus Ross. Dallas Austin, Linda Perry, Glen Ballard, and Mark Hudson also tried out.
