Eric Maskin (born December 12, 1950) is an American economist. He is the Albert O. Hirschman Professor of Social Science at Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton University. He studied in Harvard University where he received his A.B. in Mathematics and A.M. and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics. He has worked in diverse areas of economic theory, such as game theory, the economics of incentives, and social choice theory. His current research projects include comparing different electoral rules, designing auctions and studying coalition formation. He has published, among others, in American Economic Review, Econometrica and Journal of Political Economy. He is a Fellow of Econometric Society (elected 1981) and European Economic Association (elected 2004). He has been the Editor of Economics Letters since 1992.
